Plagiarism
While cooperative effort and the sharing of information are encouraged, you must ensure your assignments and
assessments are representative of your own effort, knowledge and skills. You must not take the work of others and
present it as your own. Plagiarism may result in the assignment/assessment being deemed to be “not yet competent” by
the assessor.
Students accused more than once of academic misconduct, including plagiarism, may be dismissed or cancelled from
their course at the discretion of the Clinton Institute Director of Studies.
Your trainer will provide you with feedback on your assessments so that you know what you have done well in your
assessment and what you need to improve upon or fix. An "NYC" result does not mean that you have failed and that is it -
you have the opportunity to try again. It could be that one question in your assessment was deemed Not Yet Satisfactory
(NYS) and this is the only question that will require review.
Assessment outcomes
Each assessment task will be given an outcome of either Satisfactory (S) or Not Yet Satisfactory (NYS). Students must complete
all tasks for a unit satisfactorily to achieve an overall outcome of Competent (C) for a unit. If one or more of tasks are assessed
as Not Satisfactory, students will be given an overall outcome for the unit of Not Yet Competent (NYC).
Students will be allowed up to two (2) reassessments attempts to complete the task and achieve a Satisfactory outcome.
Students need to be given a timeframe for resubmission and advised what they must include in the resubmission.
There is an Assessment Task # - Outcome Record at the end of each discreet assessment activity. Assessors are to fill this out
for each assessment activity. The summary of the outcomes are to be transferred to the Overall Unit – Record of Assessment
Outcomes located on the last page of the Student Assessment Booklet.
Results Legend
C Competent You have successfully completed the unit and have met the minimum
competency criteria and demonstrated the required skills and knowledge
NYC Not Yet You have not met minimum competency criteria for the unit - certain section/s require review due to
Competent not meeting the requirements and being deemed Not Yet Competent
Note: If you have had an initial assessment, a first re-assessment and then a final re-assessment, you
will no longer have an opportunity to re-submit. You will receive a “NYC” and have to re-enrol in the
unit.
Resubmission
You will be given the opportunity to resubmit a Not Yet Satisfactory (NYS) Assessment Task up to two (2) times. Following
assessment outcome, the student will be given appropriate feedback on previous attempt. This will enable you to have a
total of three (3) attempts.
Timeframe
You will be provided with an appropriate timeframe by your trainer to resubmit your work, for example; you may be
given 14 days to resubmit incorrect responses to written tasks or projects. Should you require to complete a roleplay or
presentation, your Assessor will make an appointment time, which suits both of you.
Records
The Assessment Task # - Outcome Record at the end of each assessment activity, and includes a space to record the
details of any re-attempts and resubmissions. Assessors must ensure that this is comprehensively detailed so that
anybody reviewing the assessment record can tell exactly what occurred, when it occurred, how it occurred, who was
involved and where any further evidence is located. Assessors must also make reference to ensuring that any re-attempt
or resubmission has been assessed in accordance with the model responses and performance descriptors included in this
marking guide.
Assessment appeals
All students have the right to appeal an assessment decision. To make an appeal about an assessment decision, students must
follow the process outlined in the Student Handbook.
Note that the Overall Unit – Record of Assessment Outcomes located on the last page of the BSBSUS501 Student Assessment
□ □

ASSESSMENT TASK 3: REVIEW POLICY IMPLEMENTATION
TASK SUMMARY:
This assessment task has two (2) activities
Activity 1 – Develop a Report for Senior Management, including an Action Plan, and
Activity 2 – Revise your Final Sustainability Policy and Procedure from Assessment Task 2
This assessment task will be introduced on conclusion of training and you must complete it by the end date of the Unit as
per your timetable. You will be given four (4) hours to complete this assessment task.
Please note: This case study is fictitious and in no way reflect the practices or outcomes of Westpac Group.
It is 12 months since the implementation of the Westpac Sustainability Policy and Procedure you developed, and the
policy review date is looming. You have been asked to present a report to management about whether the policy has
been successful. The business itself has grown in terms of employees and some new products/services, but
management indicate that some departments have shown a downturn in profit.
To assist you with your report, senior management has allowed you to access a broad range of organisation
information in relation to Westpac Group head office.
Your review uncovers the following:
1. Stationery and resource/material costs have shown very little improvement from the previous year. Paper and
printer toner costs saw a decrease earlier in the year, but have slowly increased until they are actually higher than
the previous year.
2. A number of pieces of equipment are old and are not functioning at full capacity. There is no record of when these
were last serviced.
3. The fridge in the kitchen has a poor energy rating and does not always seal properly. A lot of food has had to be
thrown away due to spoilage.
4. One of the toilets often has issues with water continuously running. It has been repaired a number of times but it
always ends up being a problem again.
5. Emails from a number of employees to their manager show complaints about wastage of paper, electricity and
other resources. Specifically:
a. Employees who are the first to arrive in the morning have noted that lights have been left on
b. the heating and/or cooling is still running in the morning, even though a ‘last to leave checklist’ is near
the rear exit (where all employees must leave at the end of the day)
c. not everyone is utilising power-saving functionality on their computers
d. the cleaner has complained numerous times about issues with waste, including:
containers of hazardous substances (often still containing the substance)
printer toner cartridges
the outside waste bin being almost full to overflowing before it is emptied on collection day
the paper recycling bins in offices and work areas include bottles and cans.
6. The gas, electricity and water bills support the claims made by employees. Accounts/ usage are comparable to
the previous year.
7. One employee has identified individuals who are not demonstrating best practice, and these are mostly
employees who started within the past 6–8 months.
8. One employee was caught throwing batteries into the recycling bin by a customer. They were reprimanded by
management and reminded of the company’s commitment to the environment and sustainability. The customer
did not make a complaint – they were a friend of one of the managers, thankfully.
9. One senior manager drives a vehicle branded with the organisation’s logo. It is a high-powered vehicle (V8).
Complete the following activities:
Activity 1
Develop a report for senior management that documents your findings in your own format/template. Your report must
include each of the following four (4) aspects;
1) The format of the report
2) The possible caused identified
3) The recommendations made
4) An Action plan
Recommendations
Your report must include a recommendation regarding each of the nine (9) issues listed in the scenario (above) including
all sub issues listed in dot point five (5).
In order to complete you’re Action plan, you must include:
an abbreviated description of each of the nine issues (from the scenario above) are to be entered into the table
below, in the “Description of Issue” column.
In the “Remedial Action/s to be taken” column below, you are to insert a brief description of the
recommendation you are making for the corresponding issue.
In the “How this will be communicated to employees” column, you are to list the communication methods to be
used.
ACTION PLAN
Activity 2
Based on the findings of your report in Assessment Task 3, Activity 1, review your Final Sustainability Policy and
Procedure, completed for Assessment Task 2, Part B, Activity 3. Make changes (to the sections 7 and 8 as listed in the dot
points below) in the Policy & Procedure, to address any four (4) of the issues included in your action plan in Assessment
task 3 Activity 1, with the aim to reduce current issues as much as possible.
Policy & Procedure Sections to Review:
7. Goals/Objectives (must modify by adding an additional two (2) items, which address the issues identified in
your action plan)
8. Desired outcomes and Performance Indicators (must modify by adding an additional two (2) items, which
address the issues identified in your action plan)
Review time frame in section 16, to reflect the next review date.
Policy Approval in section 17, needs to be left blank at this stage (as you are seeking new approval).
Submit your Report and your Revised Sustainability Policy and Procedure (the full procedure) to your assessor, seeking
approval for the updated document.
