1. The Concept For the Super Structure and how to stabilise your structure.

The super-structure will be formed from steel frames. Along the biggest opening the beam-
collumns connections will be rigid. On the other direction the connections will be pinned.
Secondary beams will be used in order to redus the buckling lengh of the main beam. Also
circular rod braces will be used in order to create a rigid diaphragm. The columns will be
connected pinned to the footings. All the elements will be of hot-rolled profiles.

2. The Concept For the Sub-Structure.

The sub-structure will be composed of isolated footing under each column. Because the
columns are near an existing structure the pads will be excentric. This is one of the main reason
why the connection between the column and footings is pinned, in such a way the final bending
moment will be redused and the foundations will be smaller.
Acording to ground study a bearing capacity of 190 kPa is choosed for the soil under pads.

Bellow are attached some sketches and design considerations.

3. Design loads and combinations

- Self load of the elements

- Dead load (Steel deck and insulation) : 0.5kN/sqm
- Live load on roof: 0.5 kN/sqm
- Snow: 0.3 kN/sqm
- Wind

Combinations:

ULS:

1.35G+1.5L+1.05S

SLS:
1G+1L+1S
4. Recommendations for Investigations.

- Existing footing investigation in order to obtain their type, depth and size.
- Investigation over existing structure, from witch the wall shall be removed.
- it is a bearing wall or not.

- is that a concrete frame structure or a masonry one.

- the height of the wall removal. Is there any beam witch will support the second floor. If not,
there is need for new beam or frame to sustain the remaining structure.

5. Further Information Required

In order to complete the project there are necessary the following things:
- sections on both directions

- Dimensions
- Details
-
6. Cost saving opportunities

In order to reduce the cost of the structure, insted of using a IPE 330 Profile for the main beam,
a steel truss can be used. The truss element can be made from double angles. For example a beam from
IPE330 has a wight of 49 kg/m, while the truss will have cca. 25 kg/m. Also this will reduce the column
size or a concrete column could be used.
Also othe solutions can be used, like adding one more row of columns in the middle of making a
concrete frame structure. But in the case the interior space of the building will be affected.
