 Preface I 1.1/1

RAM 747-200/7Q Introduction REV 115

Chapter 1 Preface

1.1 Introduction

1.1.1 The Function of Runway Analysis Manual

The Runway Analysis Manual (RAM) is provided for pilot to quickly determine Maximum
Allowable Takeoff Weight. The performance limit weight in Takeoff Table is calculated and
based on the FAR Part 25.

1.1.2 Data Source

The data here is obtained from Boeing software, Operations Manual and Approved Flight
Manual. In the event of any conflict between the data presented in this RAM and data
contained in the Approved Flight Manual, the Approved Flight Manual will always take
precedence.

1.1.3 Revision

Revision of this runway analysis manual will be issue as required from time to time. It is the
responsibility of each holder to maintain this manual up-to-date by inserting all revised
sheets as they are issued and removing the obsolete pages.

1.1.4 Temporary Revision

If a temporary revision is necessary, it will be presented in yellow paper.

1.1.5 Runway Analysis Manual (RAM)

There are three sets of RAM 747-200 (for 7A, 7Q and 7R4G2 engine) providing the user with
the necessary information to calculate the takeoff and landing performance. It also provides
the takeoff performance charts (TPCs) for the company regular destinations, regular
destination alternates, charter destination and others if necessary.

There are two volumes for each set of RAM. The flaps 10 and flaps 20 are provided for
volume I which include all regular and charter destination. Only flaps 20 is provided for
volume II which include all destination alternate for both regular and charter destination.

1.1.6 Distribution of Manuals

Regulatory Takeoff Peformance Charts kept in the China Airlines Runway Analysis Manuals are
distributed according to the Airport Category for the Distribution of Operations Related Manuals
(ACDORM).

ACDORM 1:

― is the first category, for which the personnel (or GHA) at that station is responsible for CAL
flight operations control.

OZ-OO-742-01 2001.Aug.03
 Preface I 1.1/2

RAM 747-200/7Q Introduction REV 115

― An easier way to identify ACDORM 1 airports is to check whether the manual holder of the
station has the OM/FCOM for Boeing/Airbus aircraft. If the manual holder do have OM/FCOM, then
it is an ACDORM 1 airport.

For ACDORM 1 airport RAM holders, all the TPC Charts are issued as listed in the LEP. Thus they have the
complete information.

ACDORM 2:

― is the second category, for which the personnel (or GHA) at that station is not responsible for CAL
flight operations control.

― An easier way to identify ACDORM 2 airports is to check whether the manual holder of the station
has the OM/FCOM for Boeing/Airbus aircraft. If the manual holder do not have OM/FCOM, then it is an
ACDORM 2 airport.

For ACDORM 2 airport RAM holders, only the TPC Charts for that specific station are issued instead of all
of them listed in the LEP. This allows those RAM holders to keep the least data required.

RAM 747-200/7Q Definition REV 107

1.3 Definition

1.3.1 Dry Runway

A dry runway is a runway with no moisture present.

1.3.2 Wet Runway

A wet runway for purposes of operations in air transportation (not to include airworthiness
testing) is one that is neither dry nor contaminated. The performance is the same as the
GOOD reported braking action on slippery runway.

1.3.3 Contaminated Runway

A runway where more than 25 percent of the required field, within the width being used, is
covered by standing water or slush more than 0.125 inch (3.2mm) deep, or that has an
accumulation of snow or ice. Takeoffs in slush depths greater than 0.5 inches (13mm) are
not permitted.

1.3.4 Slippery Runway

A slippery runway is a runway with a reduced tire-to-ground friction capability due to the
presence of water or ice. Airplane braking action is reported as good, medium or poor,
depending on existing runway conditions.

2.1.1 Takeoff Performance Calculation Base

Takeoff performance tables are based on following conditions, any deviation from these
conditions will require a correction applied to the takeoff weights obtained from the tables:

Anti-skid ON
All Brakes ON
Flaps 10,20

Field length is greater than 6000 ft and runway strength is sufficient
No benefit is taken from the clearway and stopway
Balance field length concept is used

2.1.2 Takeoff Performance Table Description

a The individual Take Performance Tables in this manual are arranged in the alphabetical
order of the IATA city codes. Accordingly, KHH comes before LAX and SFO before
TPE.
b The sheets of the same airport are arranged in the numerical order of the runway
numbers with the small one proceeding the larger one. For example, the table of TSA
airport runway 10 precedes that of runway 28.
c The sheets for two parallel runways in the same airport are arranged with the left-hand
side runway table proceeding the right–hand side one.
d If different FLAPS setting and ENG bleed condition takeoff performance tables are
prepared for same runway, the table are arranged with “FLAPS 10” preceding “FLAPS
20”.
e The designator after the “-“ represent the table is prepared for takeoff from the
specified taxiway entry.

b During Takeoff

1. During takeoff roll, captain may forward throttles to the full thrust position whenever
it is necessary

2. The full thrust shall be selected to “GO-AROUND” EPR instead of “TAKEOFF” EPR
when rolling speed exceeds 80KTs.

When the weight is out of Takeoff Performance Chart’s Range, determine V Speeds using
QRH.

EXAMPLE

OAT 30°C, QNH 1013 mb, Wind Calm, Takeoff from TPE 05L, ATOW=600000 lbs

MAT will be 54°C if not using Full Thrust Takeoff. From QRH (enter temperature from ‘50

Control Speed for OAT=30°C is 131. Check V1 and VR against this Minimum Control
Speed. V1 is smaller than the Minimum Control Speed. Hence, change V1 so that
V1=131. VR is larger than the Minimum Control Speed. No change is required for VR.

Note that the crew must verify that V1 and VR for the assumed temperature are not
less than ACTUAL TEMPERATURE Minimum Control Speed. Increase V1 and VR as
necessary. IF VR is increased, increase V2 by the same amount to maintain the
proper relationship between VR and V2.

Final V Speeds: V1=131 VR=137 V2=146
