ENG102 Module 1 Case

Education and Learning
Darrell Brown

Humans have always been curious and wanting to discern and explore things they are not

yet aware of. Through research and inspection, people attempt to find explanation on certain

phenomena going on around them. Remarkable developments on the physical and mental state of

an individual can be seen in as early as five years of age. It is considered that people gain more

knowledge with experience, and to most children; they learn best when ideas and information are

conferred in a multisensory approach. Using their sense of sight, smell, taste, touch and hearing,

they get to apprehend stuffs and conditions better. Multisensory teaching is used by many

parents and teachers at this point of age in order to advance a child’s learning and be able to

carry it with them as they grow older. Even though experience imbues a lot in the learning and

development of a child, it is still very important to furnish it with formal education. There are

several types of education to which a child can attend to depending on the choice of the student

or the parents. But it does not end with that. There are lots of factors that significantly influence

the value of education a child is procuring at school which consequently proves that not all

students are receiving the standard, quality education everyone deserves.

The most influencing factor that affects education is the financial capacity of a certain

student and his family. This is significantly undeniable since one cannot just be able to attend

school absolutely free. In addition to that, many countries in the world seriously lack and do not

prioritize funds for education which in return furthers poverty in their nation without them

realizing it. But there are still countries wherein students are given education at no cost. Tuition,
miscellaneous fees and other school fees are being compensated by the government.

Nevertheless, to come to think of it, there are more other factors affecting the quality of

education that involves the financial status of a student like having budget for extra-curricular

activities, transportation, decent clothes, school supplies and healthy meals. All these may be

considered outside the extent of education but definitely has great impact on a students’

performance at school.

A child’s education is also impacted by traditions, norms and culture gained from his

environment. Eventually, he will adapt to the way of life of the society he belongs to. These are

more reiterated through the teachings given by the parents at home and by the teachers in school

cases. According to studies, culture, norms and traditions may have beneficial and

disadvantageous consequences for different types of people depending on how they will engage

it into their lives. For instance, in some countries, girls are not prioritized to go to school since

they believe that females should focus on household work unlike men who need proper

schooling in order to have decent jobs to provide for their families. That way of thinking has

been passed on to generations then turned into a habit that is difficult to amend. But due to

modernization and expediency, there are some children nowadays brave enough to alter and

deflect norms they consider to be a hindrance for them to do well in life.

More than gender inequality, discrimination on the race, color and ethnicity of a person

when it comes to education is far worse. This has been a major issue up to this day making it

very difficult to put up contingency on the learning of children. There are many cases of children

being bullied and singled out at school. More than this, there are circumstances where children of

different race are being charged of horrific manners and conduct even though they aren’t doing

anything bad to others. Unfortunate but true, even some educators show bias treatment to
children of different color. This relentlessly damages the personality of a child and his perception

in life therefore disturbing his determination to learn and participate in school.

Children are undeniably very effective learners. But because there are many factors

affecting their education, it is necessary for all sectors of humanity to do something and resolve

these major issues that hindrance a child’s opportunity for quality education. The world may

have become advanced technologically when it comes to education, but there are still matters left

behind that needs attention and progression.
