SBR(Sequential Batch Reactor)Treatment process
• Sludge is enriched with oxygen to set in motion a biological process. The plant
features a pre-treatment coarse catch tank , a buffer tank, the reactor and an optional
storage tank. The plate diffusers, sludge- and Clearwater disposal are driven by an air
pressure system.

Biological Oxygen Demand
• Dissolved or suspended oxidizable organic material in wastewater is a food source for
micro-organisms.

• Digestion of this food requires oxygen. The oxygen content of the water will ultimately
be decreased by the amount required to digest the dissolved or suspended food.

• Oxidizable material + bacteria + nutrient + O2 → CO2 + H2O + oxidized inorganics

(NO3 or SO4)

• The so-called 5-day BOD measures the amount of oxygen consumed by biochemical
oxidation of waste contaminants in a 5-day period.

• The BOD value is expressed in milligrams of oxygen consumed per litre of sample during
5 days of incubation at 20 °C .

• BOD can be used as a gauge of the effectiveness of WWTPs.

Sizing & Design
KEY
Waste water generation per PE =150 liters per day
PE: Calculated population
Description Criteria
Common Household upto 3 bedrooms 5 PE
Add 1PE to 5PE for each additional bedroom after
Common Household with more than 3 bedrooms
three bedrooms
For Small 1 & 2 bedroom flats
Flat with one bedroom Allow 3PE
Flat with 2 bedrooms Allow 4PE
Prestige Hotels 1 guest= 2PE
3 * & 48 Hotels 1 guest = 1.5 PE
Restaurant, common use seats, 1 seat = 1 PE
Restaurant without kitchen but with outside seats seats, 10 seats = 1 PE
Tent sites, camp sites 2 people = 1PE
Hall, studio/ exhibition center users, 5 users = 1 PE
Club house playing fields, 30 fields = 1 PE
Health club, sports center 3 members/ staff = 1 PE
Companies, Factories staff, 3 members = 1 PE

Klaermax WWTP Monthly Power Costs _
Residential unit
Rating: 80- 360 watts.
Take an average home with 16 People; Blower rating is 120 watts.
Due to the PLC controls, only 10 hours in a day actively consume power.
Daily power consumption = 120 watts x 10 hours = 1200 watts i.e. =1.2Kwh

Daily Power costs, assume each Kwh = 0.48 USD (400RwF)

= 1.2 Kwh x 0.48 = 0.58 USD

Monthly power Costs = Kshs. 0.58 USD x 30 days

= 17.40 USD

A daily power Cost of 0.58 USD to Reclaim ca.2,280 liters of water

daily.
Uses of treated water
Our waste water recycling plants will help generate
clean water, ideal for use in;
 Flushing toilets

 Irrigation

 Cleaning (Parking, cars, etc.)

 Firefighting

 Dust suppression

• Value addition by significant water bill savings
