Literacy Comment (STUDENT A)

A Grade Example
STUDENT A is a very capable and enthusiastic student in the literacy learning area. Her reading ability is
fantastically confident, and she is able to read with great fluency and developing intonation. STUDENT A reads
less predictable texts containing some unfamiliar vocabulary. She uses a number of word attack strategies to
decode unfamiliar words. STUDENT A describes and discusses features of characters, settings and events in
different types of literature in detail. She uses a scaffold to create simple texts, using written and spoken forms
of communication. STUDENT A is working towards writings compound sentences using joining words, such as
‘and, but, so’. She uses interesting vocabulary and is making use of adjectives to enhance her writing.
STUDENT A writes recounts independently, making use of the correct structure. She accurately spells an
increasing number of high-frequency words and words with regular spelling patterns. STUDENT A uses capital
letters and full stops with few inconsistencies. I am impressed with STUDENT A’s efforts this semester. She
has demonstrated an outstanding effort in the English learning area and should be very proud of herself. Well
done, STUDENT A.

STUDENT B is a much more confident student during numeracy sessions. He is able to fluently count to 10 and
is working towards counting to 20. STUDENT B can recognise numbers to 20 and is gaining confidence in
putting these numbers on a number line. With assistance, he is able to solve simple addition sums that contain
one-digit numbers. STUDENT B is working towards identifying numbers that come before and after, up to 20.
He has a simple understanding of place value and is able to identify how many tens and ones a number has,
using a place value chart. STUDENT B has a good understanding of two-dimensional shapes and can locate
these around the classroom. He is working towards using informal units to measure length with more accuracy.
STUDENT B consistently puts a lot of effort into his mathematical work. Well done, STUDENT B, keep up the
hard work!

prayers. STUDENT C understands that people learn new things from others and from the Bible. With limited
assistance, she is able to identify new things she has learnt. STUDENT C can explain how Jesus teaches people
to love others. She is able to identify Lent as a time to change and remember to live as Jesus did. STUDENT C
has a limited understanding of the symbols of the Holy Spirit, however, does know that the Holy Spirit guided
people to live as Jesus taught. She is a good participant during Mass and understands it as a celebration of Jesus.

General Comment (STUDENT D)

STUDENT D is a bubbly and fun member of Year 1/2. She has a great sense of humour and is getting better at
laughing at herself when she makes a mistake. STUDENT D has made a strong effort this semester to ensure
she has more control over her emotions and to not let the small things get to her. Her commitment to solving
problems independently and in an efficient manner will serve her well in the coming semester. STUDENT D
has potential to be a strong leader within the classroom and is not afraid to share her opinion or suggestions. I
encourage STUDENT D to continue removing herself from distractions, as she has been doing so well. She
takes great pride in her work and is happy to share completed tasks with her peers. Although I love STUDENT
D’s attention to detail, she is frequently encouraged to complete work in a timelier manner to ensure all tasks are
completed before class ends. STUDENT D is always willing to contribute to class and group discussions with
confidence. I look forward to seeing STUDENT D’s growth next semester. Well done, STUDENT D.
