Introduction
Beginning in 2018, I started receiving many requests for genealogy clarications of DNA findings. In cases
where the Garifuna contact was one-sided (one Garifuna parent), it has been easy to map DNA
relationships to genealogy information. However, given the very small gene pool, the long history of
isolation which fostered inbreeding and polygamous practices, it has not been as easy to relate these DNA
relationships to genealogy information.

9
Given this current situation where many Belizean Garinagu are being matched with their Honduran relatives
through DNA tests, it becomes all the more important to establish the geneaological links to clarify those
relationships. The Lambey/Lambert family being one of the most prominent and interwoven family lines
and the name being one of the most unique (difficult to confuse with non-Garinagu), the decision was made

01
to focus on this family.

This document attempts to explain what I learnt. As in any compilation that I do, please note that this only
reflects the research that I've compiled. I have no interest in pursuing any one of these lines into the
present. I do not intend to revisit or to connect living persons to this information. The point of doing this is
so that persons can research their own family lines and link themselves to the tree.

Background Information
There is no information to support that the people listed below are siblings. They are being grouped according to an estimate of
their generation (based on when their children and grandchildren were born). In the case of Domingo, Catarino, Leon and Juan,
they share a common geographical origin, Belize, as stated in records.

What has struck me from looking at the records is the literacy. The Lamberts from Belize were literate, signed records while

9
those born in Honduras seemed to have received less education and were unable to sign.

1) Catarino Lambert (Stann Creek)

2) Domingo Lambert (Stann Creek)

01
3) Leon Lambert (Stann Creek)
4) Severiano Lambert
5) Justo Lambert
6) Martin Lambert
7) Juan Lambert (Belize, possibly Punta Gorda)
8) Claro Lambert
9) Simeon Lambert
t2
2nd Generation: CATARINO LAMBERT
This name, Catarino Lambert, resonates with me. I have heard it from oral history sources before but I can't fully remember the
context. Martin Avila is also a familiar name that I believe has come up in oral history interviews.

From records I have gleaned that Catarino Lambert was Belizean. His children (at least Sixto claimed Belizean heritage.) His
son, Lazaro, noted that Catarino was from Stann Creek while Juana Rocha was from Barranco Colorado. Up until the birth
of their granddaughter, Henrietta, in 1922 both Catarino and Juana were said to be residing in Travesia.
af
Of note, Caterino's children were literate, signing their names on the birth records of their children.

1) Catarino Lambert married Juana Roches de Lambert and had

1.1) Matias Lambert Rocha bap. Sep.09.1877
1.2) Sixto Lambert b. Mar.28.1889 (bap May.17.1889 in Santiago de Yoro, Yoro, Honduras)

There are two baptismal records for Sinforosa. One gives her date of birth as Jul 8th and the other lists it as
Jul 18th.

In Puerto Cortes at 9 AM on Friday May.03.1918,
Appearing before my person J. J. Montes, Municipal Secretary and the witnesses,

carpenter, of this community, resident of Saraguayna, testifying that on the 28th of
the present month, Apr.28.1918, at 8 PM in the home of Simon Lambert, located in
the same area, 54 year old housewife, Luciana Lambert died, as a result of a wound
af
received in the Deigo River. She did not have children, did not receive medical
attention and was burried in that village. I read the statement to Rufino Lambert who
