Given this current situation where many Belizean Garinagu are being matched with their Honduran relatives
through DNA tests, it becomes all the more important to establish the geneaological links to clarify those
relationships. The Lambey/Lambert family being one of the most prominent and interwoven family lines
and the name being one of the most unique (difficult to confuse with non-Garinagu), the decision was made
01
to focus on this family.
This document attempts to explain what I learnt. As in any compilation that I do, please note that this only
reflects the research that I've compiled. I have no interest in pursuing any one of these lines into the
present. I do not intend to revisit or to connect living persons to this information. The point of doing this is
so that persons can research their own family lines and link themselves to the tree.

What has struck me from looking at the records is the literacy. The Lamberts from Belize were literate, signed records while
9
those born in Honduras seemed to have received less education and were unable to sign.

2nd Generation: CATARINO LAMBERT
This name, Catarino Lambert, resonates with me. I have heard it from oral history sources before but I can't fully remember the
context. Martin Avila is also a familiar name that I believe has come up in oral history interviews.
From records I have gleaned that Catarino Lambert was Belizean. His children (at least Sixto claimed Belizean heritage.) His
son, Lazaro, noted that Catarino was from Stann Creek while Juana Rocha was from Barranco Colorado. Up until the birth
of their granddaughter, Henrietta, in 1922 both Catarino and Juana were said to be residing in Travesia.
af
Of note, Caterino's children were literate, signing their names on the birth records of their children.

Sixto Lambert, 57 years of Tela, legitimate
child of Catarino Lambert and Juana Roches,
married Toefila J. Avila, 55 yrs of Tela,
legitimate child of Alejo Avila and Gregoria
Arzu. Witnesses: Martin Avila & Isabel de
Avila

Interestingly, the name Luis Lambert is given
as name of the groom but Sixto Lambert is the
name written on the actual record. I am
uncertain if this was a mistake or if Sixto also
used the name Luis.
Francisca Amaya's parents were Cesario Amaya & Sabina Martinez, both of Masca.
Sixto Lambert signed all his children's birth records
