Q1. Define Soft Skills. Why are soft skills important?

Ans. Soft skills are a combination of people skills, social skills, communication skills, character
or personality traits, attitudes, career attributes, social intelligence and emotional
intelligence quotients, among others, that enable people to navigate their environment, work well
with others, perform well, and achieve their goals with complementing hard skills.

Soft skills are interpersonal skills which are used to describe your approach to life, work, and
relationships with other people. Unlike hard skills, these are not professional job-specific skills
like accountancy, graphics designing, etc. Soft skills are your unique selling point which gives
you a competitive edge over others in the workplace and in life.

Soft skills are very important as Soft skills are used every day at work for interacting with other
people, negotiating to win a new contract, presenting a new idea to colleagues, networking for a
new job, and so. Thus developing these soft skills will helps us to win more business and
accelerate our career progression.

Outside of the office, soft skills such as communication are used to build friendship groups and
meet potential partners. You might be negotiating the price of your new house renovation, or
mentoring your neighbours children on the weekend. Hence Soft skills are useful both in our
professional and personal lives.

Soft Skills are important in following areas:

1. Career progression and promotion

2. The modern workplace is interpersonal

3. Customers and clients demand soft skills

4. The future workplace will rely on soft skills

5. Soft skills are hard to automate

6. Soft skills are in high demand by recruiters

Q2. What do we mean by decision making? What are the 7 steps of decision making?

Ans. Decision making is the process of making choices by identifying a decision, gathering
information, and assessing alternative resolutions. Decision-making is the act of choosing
between two or more courses of action. In the wider process of problem-solving, decision-
making involves choosing between possible solutions to a problem. Decisions can be made
through either an intuitive or reasoned process, or a combination of the two.
Using a step-by-step decision-making process can help us to make more deliberate,
thoughtful decisions. The 7 steps are:

1. Identify the decision.

2. Gather relevant information.
3. Identify the alternatives.
4. Weigh the evidence.
5. Choose among alternatives.
6. Take action.
7. Review your decision.
Q3. Mention some stress management techniques.
Ans. Some stress management techniques are :
1. Keep a positive attitude.
2. Accept that there are events that you cannot control.
3. Be assertive instead of aggressive.
4. Learn and practice relaxation techniques; try meditation, yoga, or tai-chi for stress management.
5. Exercise regularly.
6. Eat healthy, well-balanced meals.
Q4. What are the steps of team development?
Ans. Steps:

1. Forming

2. Storming

3. Norming

4. Performing
5. Adjourning

Q5. Why self grooming needed?

Ans. The self grooming is essential for women as well as men. The personal grooming shows
others that you are serious about the way you look and your appearance. You need to look
professional and crisp for business and other purposes. You will have the capacity to take up the
mantle of any work if your outward looks and propensities gain appreciations from individuals
around you. Self grooming is needed due to following:

a. Makes you confident:

Once you start working on personal grooming, you’ll inevitably notice a big change in yourself.
You’ll witness significant improvement in your self-confidence and self-esteem. Wrinkled
clothing does not render the right impression on the people. It reduces your self-confidence and
makes you conscious of yourself.

b. Enhances your personality:

When you have a pleasing personality, you’ll be respected and appreciated by everyone. Your
attire, hairstyle, shoes, body language and everything that is associated with you are accountable
for improving your personality.

c. Makes you stand out from competitors:

A well-groomed person inevitably looks different from the people who are not properly dressed.
Good dressing expresses professionalism. The right hairstyle gives a neat and polished look to
your face. A person with trimmed hair, immaculate suit and properly tied tie will naturally stand
out.
MODULE-2

Q1. What do you understand by personality traits?

Ans. Personality traits reflect people’s characteristic patterns of thoughts, feelings, and
behaviors. Personality traits imply consistency and stability—someone who scores high on a
specific trait like Extraversion is expected to be sociable in different situations and over time.
An individual’s behavior towards others, attitude, characteristics, mindset make his personality.
Personality development is defined as a process of enhancing one’s personality. Personality
development sessions guide an individual as to how he/she can develop his/her personality.

Q2. Explain 5 personality traits of an individual.

Ans. Following are five personality traits of an individual:

1. Openness to experience

Individuals with openness to experience are generally very active, have a tremendous
inclination towards creativity and aesthetics and listen to their heart i.e. follow their inner
feelings. Such individuals are generally open to new learnings, skill sets and experiences.
People who score high on openness are quite broadminded and modern in their outlook as
compared to individuals who score low on the same parameter. Such individuals are
conservative, reluctant to changes and have a traditional approach in life.

2. Conscientiousness

As the name suggests, individuals with a Conscientiousness personality trait listen to

their conscience and act accordingly. Such individuals are extremely cautious and self
disciplined. They never perform any task in haste but think twice before acting. People
with this personality trait are generally methodical and tend to become perfectionists in
the long run. People who score high on conscientiousness are proactive, goal oriented and
self disciplined. They strive hard to accomplish goals and objectives within the stipulated
time frame. Individuals who score less are little laid back and are not much goal oriented.
3. Extraversion and Introversion

Carl Jung popularized both the terms - “Extraversion” and “Introversion”.

a. Extraversion: Extraversion refers to a state where individuals show more

concern towards what is happening outside. Such individuals love interacting with
people around and are generally talkative. They do not like spending time alone
but love being the centre of attraction of parties and social gatherings. Such
individuals love going out, partying, meeting people and often get bored when
they are all by themselves. They admire the company of others and hate staying
alone.
b. Introversion: Introversion, on the other hand refers to a state when an individual
is concerned only with his own life and nothing else. Such individuals do not
bother about others and are seldom interested in what is happening around. They
prefer staying backat home rather than going out and spending time with friends.
Such individuals speak less and enjoy their own company. You would never find
them in meetings, clubs, parties or social get-togethers. They generally do not
have many friends and tend to rely on few trusted ones.
4. Agreeableness

Agreeableness is a personality trait which teaches individuals to be adjusting in almost all

situations. Such individuals do not crib and face changes with a smile. They
accommodate themselves to all situations and are friendly and kind hearted. People who
score high on agreeableness are ready to help others and flash their trillion dollar smile
whenever a problem arises. Individuals who score low on agreeableness on the other
hand find difficulties in adjusting with others and are little unfriendly.

5. Neuroticism

Neuroticism is a trait where individuals are prone to negative thoughts such as anxiety,
anger, envy, guilt and so on. Such individuals are often in a state of depression and do not
how to enjoy life. They always look at the negative sides of life and find extremely
difficult to cope up with stress.

as on-going guidance on performing self evaluation.
2. If you and your manager are on different pages, it can make your performance review
stressful.
3. Objectivity Is Difficult

Q5. What is 360 degree performance appraisal?

Ans. A 360 degree appraisal is a type of employee performance review in which subordinates,
co-workers, and managers all anonymously rate the employee.

It is a feedback process through which feedback from an employee's subordinates, colleagues,

and supervisor, as well as a self-evaluation by the employee themselves is gathered.
The feedback is often used as a benchmark within the employee's development plan.
