sewing machine

LESSON PROPER: STUDENTS ACTIVITY

Sewing machine is used to join two or more pieces of
materials or to stitch a decoration on a fabric. These
things can be done hand sewing but using the machine Different parts and function of the
for sewing will make the process easier and faster. Machine
1. Point out the different parts of the sewing
machine.

Tell to the students, sewing machine has three major

parts. It is A. Cabinet
B. The Stand or Steel
C. The head

The purpose of the cabinet is to holds the drawer, the

cover / extension leaf and the center drawer
Kindly read the used of drawer and extension leaf.
1. drawer are used to keep materials for sewing
Drawer are used to keep your materials in one area

2. extension leaf covers the cabinet

Extension leaf covers the cabinet after using or you
will have an additional table or space when sewing.

That is the first major parts..

Second major parts is The Stand or Steel Framework it

has a several parts.
Kindly read..
1. The food rest while sewing on the treadle
The foot rest found it where you will put your feet. which moves the lower wheel (drive wheel)
The belt guide holds the belt in place for not to lose 2. The belt guide holds the belt in place.
the belt.
3. The drive wheel drives the balance wheel
4. The pitman rod connects the treadle to the
drive wheel crank.
5. The drive wheel crank turns the drive wheel
6. The leg supports the stand
Those parts found it in the lower body of the sewing
machine

And the most important part is THE HEAD it is upper

metal part that holds the other mechanisms.
Kindly read the following parts helds by the head. 1. The Arm is used to carry the whole part. It
likewise holds the important mechanisms inside.
It is used to carry the whole part and holds the
important mechanisms inside.
2. The balance wheel it is found at the right of the
bobbin winder. It starts the mechanism in
it coordinate with the drive wheel coordination with the drive wheel

3. Bobbin winder winds the thread in the bobbin

that is used for lower threading. It has three
parts the spindle where the thread is inserter, the
rubber wheel that rubs against the balance wheel
and turns the bobbin winder, and the latch that
Bobbin winder winds the thread in the bobbin that is keeps the bobbin in place while winding
used for lower threading
4. The face plate covers the left end head on
which the needle bar and thread take up
lever are located.

5. The feed dog moves the material as it

stitches. It is found in the middle of the face
plate

6. The feed dog regulator is used to adjust the

height of the feed dog.
7. The Needle clamp holds the fabric against the
feed dog. It is found at the middle of the face
plate

8. The Pressure bar holds the pressure foot and

needle.

9. The pressure bar lifter Lowers and raises the

presser foot. It is located on the slot on the face
plate

10. The shuttle holds the bobbin and bobbin case in

place. It is used where the inner threading parts

11. Spool pin holds the spool of thread and it is found

at the top right part of the arm.

12. Stitch regulator is used for reverse stitching, it

controls the length of the stitches and it is found
just below the spool pin.

13. Stop motion screw is used to release or tighten

the movement of the needle bar. It is located at
the center of the balance wheel.

14. Thread Guide guides the upper threading of the

sewing machine

15. Thread take-up lever it controls the flow of

needle thread and is found above the tension
regulator

16. Thread plate gives the needles access to the

lower thread through the feed dog. It is found at
the bottom of the presser foot.

17. Upper tension regulates tightness or looseness of

the stitches. It is found at the middle of the face
plate

18. Bobbin is the spool for the lower thread

19. Bobbin case holds the bobbin

2. Differentiate the thread and handling parts

materials of the sewing machine.

There are 2 different parts of the machine for

threading and handling the material.

There is the threading handling parts and Fabric

Handling Parts

What is for threading handling parts? Thread handling parts

1. Spoon pin
Spool pin holds the spool of thread and it is found at
the top right part of the arm.
Thread Guide guides the upper threading of the 2. Upper thread guide
sewing machine
3. Tension assembly
The tension assembly has little numbers on it and the
upper thread (needle thread) goes through it. It
controls how tight the thread tension is
4. Thread take up lever
Thread take-up lever it controls the flow of needle
thread and is found above the tension regulator
5. Lower thread guide
The thread guide keeps the thread running in the
proper place. If the thread is not threaded correctly,
the tension will be off
6. Needle

7. Needle clamp
The Needle clamp holds the fabric against the feed
dog. It is found at the middle of the face plate
Bobbin is the spool for the lower thread
8. Bobbin

9. Bobbin case
Bobbin case holds the bobbin

How about the Fabric Handling parts, what are those?

Fabric Handling Parts
1. Presser foot
The presser foot exerts downward pressure on the
fabric as it is fed under the needle
2. Feed dog
Their purpose is to pull (feed) the fabric through
the machine, in discrete steps, in-between stitches
3. Throat Plate
A metal plate beneath a sewing machine's needle and
presser foot. The throat plate has an opening for the
needle to pass through…
4. Stitch

5. Feed throw out knob

For lubricating the needle thread of sewing
machines for slitching tabrics

3. Discuss and demonstrate the proper use of

sewing machine

Here’s How to operate and care the sewing Machine

In Upper threading process.

Before you thread the machine you have to
1. Turn the balance wheel toward you to raise
the needle to the highest point.
2. Raise the presser foot lifter.
3. Place spool of thread on spool pin. Hold end
of the thread.
Then place your spool of thread on the spool pin 4. Pull thread down toward tension assembly.
and begin to thread the machine.
5. Pass thread under and around tension disc.
See that it falls between the two disks.
6. Bring thread upward so that it is caught by
the hook and thread guide
7. Pull thread up and behind next thread guide.
8. Pass thread through the thread take up lever
9. Bring thread down and through thread guide
10. Pass end of thread through eye of the needle.
Make sure it goes in the proper direction for your
machine. Pull at least 7 cm of thread through the
needle.

What parts carry the lower threading? The bobbin and bobbin case

The bobbin and bobbin case carry the lower

threads

What steps in threading the bobbin? a. Stop the movement of the needle by loosening
and stop motion screw.

b. Lift the presser foot and thread take up lever

. when winding a bobbin

c. When the bobbin is wound, remove it from the

bobbin winder
d. Place the bobbin in the bobbin case
e. When the bobbin is in place, you will need to pass
the end of the bobbin threading through

f. Pass end of bobbin thread through opening the

case.
That is how to carry the lower threading.

Of course, sewing machine needs cleaning and oiling.

It needs oil regularly, especially when it is making
noise while you are running it. Be sure to use the
proper oil.

Which part of the sewing machine should put 1. oil the treadle.
oil? 2. Oil the bobbin winder
3. Oil the upper part of the machine

Generalization:

The selection use and care of sewing equipment and

materials influences the quality of workmanship and
the satisfaction derived from sewing.

The proper care and use of equipment and materials

extends their life and efficiency of the device

Knowledge of the parts of the sewing machine, the

function of each sewing machine part, and how to
operate the sewing machine makes sewing easier,
more enjoyable and more efficient.
