The document summarizes an experiment to determine if a s'more can be roasted using only sunlight. The hypothesis is that the chocolate will melt in 30 minutes but the marshmallow won't cook. The experiment places a s'more in a box with the lid arranged to focus sunlight. After 30 minutes, the chocolate had melted but the marshmallow was only soft, not fully cooked. The conclusion is that more time or a higher temperature is needed to cook the marshmallow using only sunlight.

hot enough to cook a marshmallow and melt chocolate in a thirty minute period.
Note: My definition of cooked is making the marshmallow
soft and mushy so that it is the consistency of a roasted marshmallow over an actual fire. Above: Me curious if I can have a s’more without a campfire. Hypothesis
Based on my best guess, I believe that the chocolate will melt.
I do not think the marshmallow will do anything in the thirty minute period.
Additionally, I believe that if the temperature was above 106⁰
it would melt, OR if I gave the marshmallow more than thirty minutes it would melt. Materials

Step 5: Bring box outside where
there is sunlight and position the lid so that it refracts light onto the s’mores. Step 6: Check your s’more after five minutes and take a photo. Step 7: Check your s’more after ten 5 minutes more minutes and take a photo. Step 8: Check your s’more after fifteen more minutes and take a photo. Step 9: Determine if chocolate is melted and marshmallow is cooked. Step 10: Enjoy! 10 minutes Results
Results:
The chocolate did melt after thirty
minutes in 106⁰ weather. 30 minutes Unfortunately, thirty minutes was not long enough for the marshmallow to cook. But it did start getting soft! Conclusion
Relating to my hypothesis, I was correct. The
chocolate did melt, but the marshmallow If someone else were to try this needed more time or a higher temperature. experiment I would recommend getting everything outside by 1 PM so it had all afternoon to cook.
During this experiment I learned that you shouldn’t add
time constraints if you want to reach your desired results. I also learned that if you’re going to use the sun in an How long would it take to actually experiment you should not wait to do it until 5:45 PM. melt the marshmallow?
