4100/4120 AC Ground Network Assembly

Installation Instructions
(International Version)

Cautions and Warnings DO NOT INSTALL ANY SIMPLEX PRODUCT THAT APPEARS DAMAGED.
Upon unpacking your Simplex product, inspect the contents of the carton for
shipping damage. If damage is apparent, immediately file a claim with the carrier
and notify Simplex.

Introduction The AC Ground Network Assembly Kit is installed whenever a metal module
mounting box is not well grounded.
The installation is summarized in the steps listed below. When you complete a
step, check the appropriate box.

STEP # ACTION REQUIRED

1 Order the AC Ground Network Assembly Kit (Part No. 742-122).

2 Install the AC Ground Network Assembly in the system electronics


bay or elsewhere (as required).

Requirements Each 742-122 AC Ground Network Assembly Kit contains the items listed in
Table 1. Refer to the assembly drawing and procure the parts separately.

When to Use the AC Ground Install the AC Ground Network whenever a metal module mounting box is not

Note: RS-232 wiring and Media RS-485 Cards may also require AC
Ground Networks. Refer to Publications 574-137 and 574-126 for
additional information.

Installing the AC Ground The AC Ground Network Assembly is shown in the figure below. Install the
Network assembly in the following manner.
1. Connect the “flying lead” of the AC Ground Network to the common shield
connection on the designated terminal block.
If no terminal block is present, use a wirenut to connect the flying lead to the shield
connection.
1. Connect the ring terminal of the AC Ground Network to Chassis Ground.

CAUTION: When installing the AC Ground Network to the shield of the


input shielded twisted pair wire, make certain that the shield
ground of the wire does not touch either the metal box ground
or other shield grounds.
