Pakistan is a developing country and facing many challenges in sectors of Water
and Sanitation, Transportation, Health, Education, Land Management. Education
sector is facing some serious issues which should be solved soon because the future
of whole nation depends on education. Education is key element which can solve
every problem. If literacy rate is good, people are aware of their roles and duties and
they work complete their task honestly every sector will flourish.

There are six key challenges faced by the education sector in Pakistan

1. Despite increase in budgets, enrollment in schools remains low, quality

of learning is poor, and there are not enough buildings or teachers

2. There is not enough infrastructure

3. Substantial shortage of trained teachers

4. Quality of learning is poor

5. Curriculum needs to change

6. Parents and school committees are ineffective

The following challenges have reasons and also solutions:

1. Despite increase in budgets, enrollment in schools remains low, quality of
learning is poor, and there are not enough buildings or teachers
Government increase budget every year but this increase is very low as compare to
increase in population. Most of the schools were constructed before Zulfqar Ali
Bhutto`s government. These schools were nationalized and after that government
constructed just a number of schools on the other hand population is increased by
almost three hundred percent. Number of teachers is also low as compared to
students. It is difficult for a teacher to manage a class with large numbers of
students. In developed countries this ratio is very low. Many people don’t enroll
their children to school because they can`t afford educational expenses of their
children.
Solution:
Education is considered as the cheapest defense of a nation. There should
maximum increase for educational budget. The budget can only be increased if
government have much income and resources. If a country is economically stable
and unemployment rate is very low , people have high income they can afford their
children`s education. A country becomes economically stable if there is
peace,Political stability, law in order and government provides business friendly
environment. Government should construct more buildings for schools and also
recruit more teachers for good efficiency. Government should provide scholarships
to the needy students who can`t enroll in school because of their financial
condition.

2. There is not enough infrastructure

About one tenth of schools do not have building. Most of the buildings are not
in good condition and are too old. There is lack of laboratories and libraries in
schools and colleges. The amount of money issued for development is insufficient
and corrupt factors are also cause of poor infrastructural. Every building requires
maintenance after its construction. And allot of funds are required for new
infrastructure.
Solution

Government should take interest in infrastructural development and there should

maximum budget for education and government should also control corruption and
an audit trail of past funds should be start. By audit government comes to know that
how much money is actually used during a financial period for different projects
and how much money government provide. It also help us to know if there is any
corruption. There should minimum one or two laboratories in every government
school and colleges. The government should look after the use of governmental
schools and colleges buildings. There should proper maintenance system of
infrastructure. The equipment in schools and colleges should be updated and good
in quality.
3. Substantial shortage of trained teachers:

Teachers are not trained well. During recruitment only academic records are checked not
the communication skills or teaching style. So they are not trained enough to teach the
students. That's is why education system of Pakistan is not flourished.

Solution:

Government should hire the trainers who are specialized. Regular training course should
be conducted for the teachers and also they should be trained of new teaching techniques
using technology. Their attendance should be considered a compulsory thing during
training. Training should be done in every school and college of government for efficient
output. Most of teachers are serving from earlier 2000. they have studied old syllubus and
they should be trained for use of new techonology and new syllabus.

4. Quality of leaning is poor:

Teachers teach in their own style and they don't even try to think that the students
sitting in front of them are not got enough in the first place. They use their own
satisfaction to convey the message and they don't bother that, is the message is
delivered is properly good so that they can understand easily. They just convey
their teachings but do not put intended things to their level.

Solution:
For this teachers should adopt an easy and friendly way of communication so
students can understand the proper meaning of the message.Teachers should make
students enable to think critically , this can only happens if students have strong
concepts of what they are studying. This can also done by providing students an
environmental to flourish their skills by practical work. Teacher should use easy to
understandable language for students. There is a communication gap between
students and teachers because teachers are well qualified and they spoke English
which a average student can not understand easily. And students must pay attention
to the lecture rather to involve in other useful activities while teacher is teaching.
Students should have freedom to chose the subjects in which they want to
study. For this purpose there should proper career consoling. There should career
consoles in every government institutions.

5. Curriculum needs to change

Syllabus and books are too old which students study in the schools and in
colleges .PhD doctors and M. Phil are teaching same courses and syllabus which
they have studied in their school and college level. Some courses are too old and
some are actually not useful and they are extra. We are studying the courses of
almost 50 years back.

Solution
These courses and syllabus must be replaced by the modern and useful contents of
syllabus. So students can learn about the meaningful things about their values and
profession. Courses must be included according to the recent studies and relate able
to the modern age.So they can study the recent inventions and can run a race about
future generation. They can compete at international level by their skills and
modern age of studies. This can only happen when government took interest in
curriculum.A team of PhD`s should be tasked to change the curriculum according
education in new era.
6. Parents and school committees are ineffective

There are not enough parents and teachers meetings held by the institutes. Parents
are not informed by the teachers about their child`s progress and both parties do
not bother to contact individually to the other one. there are no counselors in the
schools to tell a student to choose his own. Course of studies or to follow a certain
profession as he likes. Parents also force and do not ask about their children about
their choice.
Solution
To overcome these problems there should be some parent and teacher meetings
time by time so parents know about the current condition about studies and they
can check about the progress afterwards. There must be at least one career
counselor in the school to counsel the students so they can go with. Their passion
or with their choice to achieve something in their life and parents also need to
realize that their child is unique and he can choose his own profession and can
become successful.
