Why home remedies?

Knowing how to make your own healing salves and immune boosting supplements
gives you great peace of mind.

Whenever you or a loved one comes down with a mild illness or suffers a routine
injury, you can be ready to help.

By having these home remedies on hand, healing and relief can take place quickly.

Getting Started

I’m going to share recipes for a few of my most popular remedies. Follow along and
we’ll learn to make herbal healing salve, elderberry syrup, and black drawing salve.
Let’s jump in!
Herbal Healing Salve
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups grass fed tallow balm
1/4 cup dried comfrey leaf
1/4 cup dried plantain leaf
1/4 cup dried calendula flowers
1/4 cup dried chickweed leaf
2 tbsp beeswax

Directions:
Melt tallow balm over a gentle heat until it is liquid.
Pour needed amount of tallow balm into a quart mason jar.
Add dried herbs to liquid tallow balm and stir to incorporate well.
Create a double boiler by placing the mason jar on a cloth inside a
saucepan with water.
Heat the water until it comes to a low simmer.
Let the mason jar full of tallow balm and herbs sit in the simmering
water for at least 3-4 hours, but much longer is better. I often let mine
go 12 hours. Just keep an eye on it and replace water in the pan as it
evaporates.
Strain herbs out of tallow balm using a metal strainer lined with
cheesecloth.
Put the jar of herb infused tallow balm back into the double boiler, and
return it to the gentle simmer.
Add the beeswax to the herb infused tallow balm.
Once beeswax is melted, stir to combine well.
Pour hot mixture into tins or jars to store.
Allow tins to sit until salve is solid.
Put lids on containers and store in a cool, dark place.

To use: Apply as needed to scrapes, cuts, bruises, and bug bites.

Elderberry Syrup

Ingredients:
1 cup elderberries, dried
2 tbsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
1 cup raw honey
4 cups filtered water

Directions:
Measure elderberries, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and water and put them in a
saucepan.
Heat to a gentle simmer.
Allow to simmer until mixture has reduced by half.
Strain elderberries.
Allow mixture to cool until still gently warm.
Add honey and mix well.
Store in refrigerator.

Dosage: adults take 1 TBSP, children under 12 take 1 tsp. Do not give honey to
infants under one year.
Black Drawing Salve

Ingredients:
1/2 cup grass fed tallow balm
2 tsp beeswax
1 tbsp bentonite clay
1 tbsp activated charcoal
6 drops tea tree essential oil
6 drops lavender essential oil

Directions:
Melt tallow balm over a gentle heat until it is liquid.
Pour needed amount of tallow balm into a quart mason jar.
Add the beeswax to the tallow balm.
Create a double boiler by placing the mason jar on a cloth inside a
saucepan with water.
Heat the water until it comes to a low simmer.
Once beeswax is melted, stir to combine well.
Add bentonite clay and activated charcoal to liquid tallow balm and stir
to incorporate well.
Remove from heat and add essential oils. Stir to combine.
Pour hot mixture into tins or jars to store.
Allow tins to sit until salve is solid.
Put lids on containers and store in a cool, dark place.

To use: Apply to infections, stings, and splinters and cover with a

bandage.
