How much of your life does stress control and how to manage it?

Stress plays a major part in everybody’s everyday life. The way people handle it and

manage it varies from person to person. According to Donnelly (2019), Americans are more

stressed, thus, leading to more depression and anxiety issues, but yet are not able to find the help

that they need. What is to blame for the increase of stress levels that Americans are having?

Everything! It could be as simple as your coffee being too hot or as complicated as being placed

out of work due to the current pandemic.

Stress can raise havoc on the body and mind causing many physical, psychological, and

behavioral changes (“Stress Symptoms”). People may experience such physical symptoms as:

headache, pain in the chest, upset stomach, and excessive sleep or lack of sleep. Stress can also

show mood changes such as a sense of being overwhelmed, irritability, and lack of focus

(“Stress Symptoms”). Behavior changes can be seen due to stress also. People, when

experiencing stress, can see such behavioral changes as: eating too much or not eating enough,

substance abuse, and becoming withdrawn socially from others.

Stress management helps relieve people of the burdens of everyday stressful situations,

even if for a short time. The ultimate goal of stress management is for people to enjoy a balance

between work, family, social relationships, fun, and relaxation (“Stress Management”). Effective

stress management is different from person to person. One technique that works for one person

may not be helpful for the next person.

One must practice on how to manage stress and for each person’s health, he or she must

do this so not to have life threatening issues (“Stress: Ways to Manage and Reduce It”). There

are many strategies and ways to manage stress. According to Spence (2018), controlling one’s

exposure to cell phones, ipads, computers or any form of technology in general is a way to start.

Deep breathing techniques, exercise, and eating a well balanced diet is extremely important in

helping control the burden of stress (“Stress: Ways to Manage and Reduce It”).
