COMMUNICATION

important as breathing. If
you stop breathing, it is
certain that you will stop
living. Similarly, if you stop
communicating, you also
stop living in harmony
with other people.
COMMUNICATION

Through communication, you are able

to understand the point of view, the
concern, the issue or perspective of
the person you are talking with.
Hence, it is of great importance that
we communicate in a positive way
and do it right.
COMMUNICATION

The ability to communicate

effectively leads to peace and
harmony in the family.
COMPONENTS OF AN EFFECTIVE
COMMUNICATION:

• Communicating your feelings

expressing your feelings about something
or someone honestly.

• Respecting the right of the person to

express emotion in an appropriate way.
Communication in the family is affected by
the inability to listen attentively to
each other.
Some reasons are as follows:

• They are too preoccupied and therefore unable to

listen.
• They are more interested in what they want to say.
• They are formulating and thinking about their own
rebuttal.
• They are making judgment about the speaker or
the message.
• They do not ask clarification even when they do
not understand.
How to listen attentively?

• Develop your listening skills.

• Find time or make time. Find opportunities to talk
to members of the family informally.
• Take turns.
• Use “I” words. This shows that you take
responsibility for your own reactions.
• Leave the conversation open. Expand and
elaborate your answers so that others can take part
in the conversation.
INTEGRATION
Communication is important in
strengthening the relationship
within a family. How will you
improve and strengthen your
communication with your
parents and siblings?
