talents to show your responsibility
toward God, self and others?
WHAT IS IT TO BE
RESPONSIBLE?
RESPONSIBILITY

It comes from the Latin word

“respondere” which translates to
“to respond”. To be responsible
means “reliable, trustworthy”.
RESPONSIBILITY
Responsibility is a virtue which speaks well
of the character of a person. Each individual
has the capacity to choose what is best
for himself and for the common
good. This capacity of evaluating one’s action
for the benefit of others speaks of a
responsible person.
Responsibility is a person’s
“response-ability”.
DR. FRANK THOMAS
Author and Pasto

The ability of a person to respond

maturely to the various challenges
and circumstances of life.
REFLECTION QUESTION

1. Why is it important to be a
responsible follower?
2. Why is it important to be a
responsible leader?
THREE TYPES OF
RESPONSIBILITY
TYPES OF RESPONSIBILITY

1. Personal
2. Social
3. Moral
PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY

It is the willingness to be accountable

for what one thinks, says and does. It
means that one has a duty to oneself to
become a better person and this
involves developing one’s talents and
skills in order to make good use of them.
Examples

1. Being responsible for one’s time.

2. Keeping one’s self fit and healthy.
3. Accepting one’s strength and
weaknesses.
4. Finding ways to improve one’s skills and
talents.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
It is a frame of mind wherein an
individual (or organization) has an
obligation to act for the benefit of the
society at large. It is a duty every
person has to perform so as to maintain
a balance between the economy and
ecosystems.
Examples

1. Avoiding socially harmful acts.

2. Respecting the dignity of others.
3. Taking care of the environment.
MORAL RESPONSIBILITY

It demonstrates a person’s ability to

make a decision based on moral or
ethical obligations.
MORAL RESPONSIBILITY
• People who have moral responsibility for an
action are called moral agents.
• These moral agents are capable of
reflecting on their situation, forming
intentions on how they will act and
finally carrying out the action.
MORAL RESPONSIBILITY

In moral responsibility, free will is

an important component since
being truly free means to do what is
right and avoid what is evil.
Examples

1. Expressing love and concern

towards others.
2. Being truthful in everything that
you do.
RESPONSIBILITY

Responsibility is one of the

primary traits looked for in
persons being groomed for
leadership.
