Writing to Support Your Opinion

Directions: An author tries to convince a reader that his or her opinion is correct by giving
evidence. Writers often use one of these four kinds of evidence to convince a reader:
FACTS, EXAMPLES, QUOTES FROM EXPERTS, and REFERENCES/DESCRIPTIONS OF
REAL EVENTS. Before writing your essay, brainstorm and research to fill out the chart
below. Your audience will be much more likely to believe you! Use can use the facts from
