The angle between two consecutive digits in a clock is

= 300 ( /𝟔 radians)

To find out the angle, formula

11M
θ= − 30H
2
Here, 𝜽 = 𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒍𝒆
M = minutes
H = hours

The hour hand rotates through an angle of 300 in one hour i.e (1/2)0 in one minute

The minute hand rotates through an angle of 60 in one minute

FIND THE DAY OF ANY DATE

YEAR

Year is divided into two types

1) Normal (Ordinary) year: The year which is not divisible by 4

Ex: 1983, 1991, 2017
An ordinary year has 365 days
2) Leap Year: The year which is exactly divisible by 4
Ex: 1804, 1920, 2004, 2016
i) A leap year has 366 days
ii) Every 4th century is a leap year and no other century is a leap year
iii) Each of the years 400, 800, 1200, 2000 etc. is a leap year

Odd Days

In a given period, the number of days more than complete weeks are called Odd
Days

COUNTING OF ODD DAYS

1) One ordinary year = 365 days (52 weeks + 1 day)

∴ One ordinary year has 1 odd day
2) One leap year = 366 days (52 weeks + 2 days)
∴ One leap year has 2 odd days
3) 100 years = 76 ordinary years + 24 leap years
= (76 × 1 + 24 × 2) odd days
= 124 odd days
= (17 weeks + 5 days) ≡ 5 𝑜𝑑𝑑 𝑑𝑎𝑦𝑠
∴ Number of odd days in 100 years = 5

Number of odd days in 200 years = (5 × 2)

= (1 week + 3 days) ≡ 3 𝑜𝑑𝑑 𝑑𝑎𝑦𝑠

Number of odd days in 300 years = (5 × 3)

= (2 weeks + 1 day) ≡ 1 𝑜𝑑𝑑 𝑑𝑎𝑦

Number of odd days in 400 years = (5 × 4)

= (20 odd days + one odd day) ≡ 0 𝑜𝑑𝑑 𝑑𝑎𝑦𝑠
Similarly, each one of 800 years, 1200 years, 1600 years, 2000 years etc. has
0 odd days

1 The area of the region swept by the minute hand, 7 cm long, of a wall
clock in an interval of 6 minutes is…

Area of the region traced by minute hand in 60 minutes = 𝝅𝒓2

Region traced in 6 minutes

The wall clock gains 6 minutes in 36 hours, while table clock loses 2 minutes in 36
hours
𝟑
Therefore, difference of 8 minutes is in days
𝟐
Difference 12 hours is in
3 1
= ∗ ∗ 12 ∗ 60
2 8
= 135 days (answer)

3 What angle will the hour hand of a clock will move from 8:15 hrs to 8:45
hrs ?

SOLUTION

Angle covered by hour hand in one hour (60 minutes)

𝟏
= × 2𝝅
𝟏𝟐
𝝅
= radians
𝟔
So, angle covered by hour hand in 15 minutes
𝟏𝟓 𝝅
= ×
𝟔𝟎 𝟔
𝝅
= radians
𝟐𝟒
𝟒𝟓 𝝅 𝝅
Now in 45 minutes the angle covered by hour hand => × = radians
𝟔𝟎 𝟔 𝟖
𝝅
i.e at 8:45 hrs the hour hand will subtend angle radian with 8 digit

𝝅 𝝅 𝝅
Required angle => − = radians (answer)

6 At what time after 3 : 10 am, the acute angle made by the minute and
hour hand is double to that of 3 : 10 am for the first time …………..
SOLUTION:

Angle between hour hand and minute hand at 3 : 10

11
𝜃= ∗ 𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑢𝑡𝑒𝑠 − 30 ∗ ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑟 [Formula]
2

11
= ∗ 10 − 30 ∗ 3

𝜃 = 350

According to question
11
2 × 35 = ∗ 𝑀 − 30 ∗ 3

Therefore, angle will be double at 3 : 29 𝑎𝑚 (𝑎𝑛𝑠𝑤𝑒𝑟)
