Brick walls are probably the most common building elements in construction of a house in
Bangladesh. These walls form basic units for creating rooms that make up a house. The walls
besides being space dividers are also structural elements that transfer the load of the roof to
the ground. Brick walls are constructed on strip spread or raft foundations that support the

A wide variety of coating materials and methods will be used to produce brick of a certain color or surface
texture. To create a typical coating, sand (the main component) is mechanically will be mixed with some type
of colorant. A flux or frit (a glass containing colorants) can be added to produce surface textures.
2 . C l a s s i f i c a t i o n
First class brick will be used for this project which contains smooth surface, sharp edges and size with toler-
ance in dimensions + - 3%. Moreover, machine molded and uniform red brick which has less than 15% water
absorption will be used.
3 . M a n u f a c t ur i n g P r o c e s s
The initial step in producing brick is crushing and grinding the raw materials in a separator and a jaw crusher.
Next, the blend of ingredients desired for each particular batch will be selected and filtered before being sent
on to one of three brick shaping processes—extrusion, molding, or pressing, the first of which is the most
adaptable and thus the most common.
4 . Q u a l i t y C o n t r o l
A variety of physical and mechanical properties must be measured and must comply with standards set by
the SGS. These properties include physical dimensions, density, and mechanical strength.
5 . A p p e a r a n c e
Bricks will be a fine-grained, uniform, homogeneous and dense texture on fracture and must be free from
lumps of lime, lamination, cracks, air holes, soluble salts causing efflorescence or any other defect which may
impair their strength, durability, appearance and usefulness for the purpose intended.
5 . D u r a b i l t y a n d E x p o s u r e
The minimum compressive strength, maximum water absorption and maximum saturation coefficient will
be used in combination to predict the durability of the bricks in use. The saturation coefficient, also referred
to as the C/B ratio, is the ratio of 24-hour cold water absorption to the five-hour boiling absorption.
6 . T e s t
A compression testing machine will be used for strength test. Moreover, a glass made shallow flat bottom
dish containing distilled water will be used for efflorescence.
