For our final assignment we were asked by our professor to create a spiritual and
psychological inventory that could be used to determine a current state of wellness. We are
supposed to interview someone and come up with 10 thoughtful questions how to best help the
person develop their own spectrum of spirituality and psychological self. We also to explain
specific reasons why each question is valuable to include as part of the inventory. We are then to
explain as a practitioner how we could use the information to help the person develop their own
The person I decided to interview was my sister. I thought she would be a great candidate
to interview because she is very open with her feelings when it comes to spirituality and not to
mention strong headed as well. Here is a little background about my sister. She is the kind of
person that gets her feeling hurt a lot she is a very sensitive person and somewhat of a drama
queen and can sometimes be a very pessimistic person. Therefore, I chose to interview her
because I think with the questions I came up to ask her I think this will help her in the long run.
These are the question that I came up with to ask my sister as follows:
The first question was: What might be some examples of positive self-talk that you could use
which might make you feel better in tough situations? Maybe something that you are not yet,
using but what might be helpful? Her response was she is a strong women life is hard, but she
has the creator by her side she quotes “So powerful is humanity that she feels she can get through
anything. Some of the examples she mentioned is watching inspirational YouTube video that is
called “God’s Love” which helps her get through tough times. Another thing she mentions in the

interview is that she needs to self-evaluate and see where she falls on the spectrum. She gives an
example of when she is having a bad day at work is think about how she can turn her bad day
into a good day. I think the reason why this question is valuable so to the inventory is because I
believe this helps the person open up when they only think about negative things in life and to
realize that they need to have positive self-talk to get them through situations that might be hard
to deal with.
The second question was: What are 3 ways that you see your viewpoints of the world in
general impacting your spirituality? She told me in the interview that she lacks spirituality
because of the reinforcement of the negative experiences that has happened in her life her self-
doubt also impacts her spirituality and her insecurities. However, she also thinks what pulls her
through is the higher power. She questions herself, why things happen to her, but then she
realizes all the miracles around her and that makes her feel like she could have that faith again. I
feel the reason why this question is so valuable to the inventory is because Not everyone is the
same, everyone is going to have their own viewpoints that are impacting their spirituality and
you might meet people that have positive viewpoints impacting their spirituality and other’s that
have negative viewpoints and that doesn’t mean that is a bad things it just helps you better
The third question was: What are some things that you can do when things do not go
right that can help you feel more at ease? She says she can go home and pray to the creators to
help her get through hard times. She says she can take deep breathes to release the negative
energy that she might be feeling, another thing she said that can help her feel more at ease is

running. She told me that is her escape from the world. She feels like god gives us trials in our
life that he knows that we can get through. I feel the reason why this question is valuable to the
inventory is because we all know that life is not a walk in the park. There are going to be days
where nothing goes right, and we think to ourselves that it’s never going to get better. But it will
get better. This question is valuable because it gives me an insight of how strong the person is
and what specific tools I can give that person to cope with things.
The fourth question was: Who are 3 people that you know you can rely upon when you
are having a difficulty in your life? The 3 people that she mentioned is the interview was. Her bf,
she calls him her angel from heaven. The second person was her big sister which is me. She said
it’s because I’m always there for her and when she is going through a hard time I help her get
through it. The third person is our dad. She said the reason why she chose our dad is because
even if she is having the worst day she can always count on our dad to give her good advice and
make her feel better. The reason why this question is so valuable in this inventory is because this
helps me better understand where she is coming from. Significant people who mean the world to
the person, I believe can define the person and there past.
The fifth question was: What might be some examples of how you see your successes in
life impacting things at home and at work? In our interview she told me Successes at work would
be dedicated to her job. Because of the rough trials we dealt with when our dad was in the
hospital she said she was still able to go to work every day. Having our mom being her example
of such a driven woman and wanting to be superwomen just like our mom. The reason why this
question is so valuable in this inventory is because I feel this question will help me know the

person better, I can get a glimpse into the world of the person and what she knows what
The sixth question and 7th question was: What does spirituality mean to you? And in what
ways would you consider yourself spiritual? Spirituality means to her believing in a higher
power instead of the ridged rules that you follow in a religion. For her spirituality is how you
treat people and how you treat humanity. She gives an example of helping the homeless. She
believes in a higher power, teachings of different prophets and being a helping hand. It’s how
you incorporate in a higher power to you, reading poetry, listening to uplifting music. The reason
why this question is so valuable in this inventory is because it gives me insight of how strong her
spirituality is to her and it also tell me that I wouldn’t offend her if I brought up spirituality
subjects.
The eighth question was: Rate your current level of optimism? Tell me how optimism is
impacting your work life? In our interview she told me that it is making it a lot better. She feels
like current level of optimism is a 7. Optimism is impacting her life is she feels she can act more
professional around people without negative people impacting her day. She doesn’t let negative
people impact how her day is going to be. She also said in our interview that with how optimism
impacting her work life is that she no longer sees tunnel vision, she has opened her eyes to be
openminded. She accepts people for who they are, and then gets on with her work without letting
coworkers get her down. The reason why this question is so valuable in this inventory is it tells
me that she is a very optimistic person and she can be productive at work without minimal
distractions.

The ninth question was: If you could pick one mantra for the rest of your life what would
it be? Why did you choose this mantra? It would be “Don’t let the world of negativity keep you
from being the kind of person you were meant to be.” She told me the reason she picked this
mantra was because she feels as a spiritual person it is better to be positive. Every human being
on this earth has so many trials and tribulations to go through. It is necessary when you’re a
strong a person is to lead by example and help others. I feel this mantra benefits in her career,
especially when I’m put in a negative circumstance I can be strong for my clients especially
children. The reason why this question is so valuable in this inventory is because you can tell
from what she talks about her mantra is that she doesn’t let life get her down. She is always
willing to pick herself up and try again if she fails. She never gives up. She goes after what she
wants in life.
The tenth question was: What could you teach a person about spirituality if they were
having a difficult time in their life? Teach them to pray to a higher power learn to do a lot of self-
care and let them know that it’s ok to express themselves and feel different emotions it’s also ok
that they just focus on themselves. The reason why this question is so valuable in this inventory
is because this show me that she gives good advice to people who might be struggling in their
During the interview with my sister I did not have anything to add or subtract. I thought that the
question that I came up really connected to my sister I feel like she answered the questions true
fully. I feel like my questions were ones she could understand and relate too. There wouldn’t be
anything I would change the interview went well. The information that I received from my sister
to help me develop her own spiritual and psychological health development plan is I would

recommend that she practices Self Love Mediation at least 3 days a week or anytime she is
feeling low-self-esteem This would be such a great way to build her confidence. The other thing
I would recommend her to do is relaxation techniques to help reduce her stress. I feel this will
help her sleep better and be less tense at work. The third thing I would recommend her doing at
least 4 days a week would be laughter yoga. I feel this would be good for her because from what
I’ve observed is she takes life to seriously and this will help her lighten up. Plus, yoga is great for
