The neighborhood store on the corner of Dill Avenue and Allene in

southwest Atlanta has been around since most people can

remember.

Wednesday Big Daddy's Grocery had chains and locks across the
front door. Police said the owner had been shot during a robbery
Monday afternoon.

"Everybody in the neighborhood knows the owner as 'Big Daddy', he

would help anybody who comes here, all around good guy," says
Diego Ward who is a regular customer.

Surveillance video shows two black men bursting into the store
wearing masks. One man took his mask off once inside the store.
That same man has a gun and is pointing it straight in front of him. In
the video, he is seen leaning over the counter and firing one shot.
Atlanta Police say the owner was hit in the leg.

"They didn't have to shoot him, he's an older gentleman. For them to
just go up and shoot him, it's very cowardly," said Ward.

In the video, the second man rips the cash register from the counter
and they run out the door. Witnesses told police they both jumped
into a car with a woman behind the wheel that was parked down the
street. Witnesses said the vehicle was a Toyota Camry with license
plate tag RGK3387, according to authorities.
"Just a tragedy that two individuals would take advantage of him like
that because he would do anything for anybody," said Ward.

The store owner was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital where he is

in stable condition. Anyone with information related to this incident,
or can help identify the suspects, should contact the Atlanta Police
Department.
