This document reports Robbery and Homicide investigation of an incident in April 2022. It

begins with a short summary of what happened. The rest of the report covers the same

information in greater detail.

Incident summary

On April 20, 2022, at 9:15 p.m., a group masked men suspects entered into a convenience store;

one was brandishing a handgun and demanding money from the cashier. After robbing the store,

one of the suspects shot a young man. The police arrived soon after but the young man

subsequently died from the gunshot injury.

Background information

Alfamart convenience store located at Poblacion East, Taysan, Batangas. The company

employed seven workers. The worker involved in the incident had been employed at this

Alfamart convenience store as a cashier. The worker had undergone all training required for

working alone, violent/abusive customers, and robbery prevention.

Sequence of events

On April 20, 2022, the worker started the worker’s shift at 5:00 pm. It was just another typical

night at the local convenience store, with customers coming and going, picking up snacks and

drinks as they pleased. But little did anyone know that this night would turn out to be a horrific

tragedy that would shake the entire community. As the night wore on, at 9:15 a.m. on May 16th,

a group masked men suspects burst into the convenience store; one was brandishing a handgun

and with other suspects and demanding money from the terrified employees. The cashier

fumbled with the cash register, trying to open it as quickly as possible, but the robbers became
impatient, and one of them fired a shot into the ceiling, sending the customers and employees

diving for cover. In the chaos that followed, one of the robbers turned his attention to a young

man who had been trying to flee the store. The robber chased him down the aisle, firing his gun

wildly and finally caught up to him near the front door. In a fit of rage, the robber shot the young

man point-blank, killing him instantly. The other robbers quickly grabbed the money from the

cash register and fled the store, leaving behind a scene of destruction and terror.

The police arrived soon after, but it was too late for the young man who had lost his life in the

senseless violence. The young man died as a result of the gunshot wound. The community was in

shock, with many people struggling to come to terms with what had happened. The police

launched a full-scale investigation, and after months of searching, they finally caught the robbers

responsible for the crime. They were convicted of robbery with homicide and were sentenced to

life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Completion

A review for enforcement action was completed on February 20, 2023, and it was determined

that prosecution or an administrative penalty were appropriate based on the circumstances

surrounding this incident.
