AIRPLANE AND SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
No change to the basic POH and AFM except for the following:
TI Y -
ENGINE
The airplane is now powered by a Pratt and Whitney Canada PT6A-
BU NL
ON
42A turbopropeller engine which is similar to the original engine
except for the following:
The engine is rated for 850 SHP (2232 ft-lbs at 2000 RPM)
RI O
The gear box torque limit is 2232 ft-lbs.
The gas generator (compressor stage) provides a
ST Ecompression ratio or 8.9:1.
The power turbine limit speed is 30,145 RPM at 2000 RPM (a
DI NC
reduction ratio of 0.0635:1)
Engine is dual exhausted.
An extra turbine stage is provided to drive the output shaft.
R RE
Bleed air supply is obtained from the left side of the engine.
Supplemental ground heat is obtained from the right side of
T EF
the engine.
Motive flow return and supply pressures have increased.
R
The MAX position is used when high RPM is desired and governs the
propeller speed at 2000 RPM. Propeller control lever settings from
MAX to MIN position permit the pilot to select the desired engine RPM
for cruise to as low as approximately 1600 to 1650 RPM.

T EF
TORQUE INDICATOR
The torque indicator is now electrically powered and operates in
TI Y -
conjunction with an electro-piezoelectric type transmitter located on
the top of the reduction gearbox front case. The transmitter senses
the difference between the engine torque pressure (on the right side
BU NL
of the gear box) and the pressure in the engine case (on the left side
ON
of the gear box) and transmits this data to the indicator. The torque
indicator converts this information into an indication of torque in foot-
pounds (ft-lbs). The torque indicator system is powered by 28-volt DC
RI O
power through a circuit breaker, on the left sidewall switch and circuit
breaker panel.
ST E
If originally equipped with direct pressure lines from the engine gear

cruise power has been set and stabilized. To start a trend recording
press the Trend Button and hold it in for more than 2 seconds but less
than 5 seconds, data will start recording as soon as the button is

released and stop recording at the preset duration. Event Data allows
the capture of any abnormal event such as an odd noise or vibration
ST E
by recording data stored for 30 seconds prior to pushing the Trend
Button and continuing for a preset duration. To start an event data
DI NC
recording press the Trend Button and release in less than 2 seconds.
The duration of any data recording mode can be adjusted in the
ETMS configuration file, refer to the operator’s guide 7200-0003 Rev
R RE
After the fault has been identified and repaired the alert may be
cleared as follows;
1. Press and hold the Trend Button for longer than 5 seconds then
R
release it.
2. Press & release the Trend Button again with-in 5 seconds.

Exporting Data: a data export can only be completed when the engine
is not running. There are two types of exports; a simple export and a
detailed export. A simple export automatically exports a file containing
the system event log and the instrument exceedance log. This
information is typically used by maintenance personnel. The internal
log file is not cleared from a simple export. Perform a simple export as
follows;
TI Y -
Trend Button flashes fast green the export is complete. A flashing
red indicates export canceled due to error or there is insufficient
space on the UFD to complete the export.
BU NL
ON
4. Remove the UFD once the export is complete
A detailed export exports log files, new data and old data files. This
RI O
data is typically used for a more detailed analysis such as engine
condition trend monitoring and is exported in two phases which can
be exported separately. Phase 1 includes a log file and the new data
ST E
files; once this is exported the internal log file is cleared. Phase 2
DI NC
includes all archived data. Perform a detailed export as follows;
1. Press and hold the Trend Button, attach the UFD while holding
the Trend Button
R RE
2. Release the Trend Button, the system validates the UFD and
automatically starts a phase 1 export. The Trend Button should
flash yellow during the export
FO E
3. At the end of the phase 1 export the Trend Button will turn solid
green. You may remove the UFD at this point or export phase 2.
T EF
4. To export phase 2 press and release the Trend Button. The Trend
Button again flashes yellow until the phase 2 export is complete.
5. Once the export is complete the Trend Button fast flashes green
R
to indicate both phase exports are complete and you may remove
the UFD.

A 40% larger capacity oil cooler has been installed in order to
increase cooling margins.
RI O
Breather air from the accessory gear box is now obtained from an
ejector installed on the lower right cowling via a firewall installed air/oil
ST E
separator can and required hoses. Separated oil is drained from the
air/oil separator can to an oil EPA drain can mounted to the lower
DI NC
right truss tube. The oil EPA drain can includes a drain and an
overflow tube in the lower right cowling.
R RE
The oil tank capacity is still 9.5 U.S. quarts and the total system
capacity is 14.5 U.S. quarts.

ENGINE ACCESSORIES
TORQUE METER
See SECTION 7 ENGINE INSTRUMENTS TORQUE INDICATOR for

changes to the torque meter pressure measurements.
TORQUE LIMITER
BU NL
The engine is equipped with a torque limiter designed to prevent
ON
overtorquing the engine. This limiter is installed on the engine torque
pressure boss on the reduction gear box. When a high overtorque
RI O
pressure is sensed when near 2410 foot-pounds, the limiter bleeds off
Py air to the atmosphere; thus limiting the fuel supply to the engine.
ST E
ENGINE GEAR REDUCTION
The gear box reduction ratio is from a maximum power turbine speed
DI NC
of 30,145 RPM down to a propeller speed of 2000 RPM (a reduction
ratio of 0.0635:1).
R RE
CHIP DETECTOR
Two chip detectors (one on each gear box) are now required and not
optional.
FO E
If not previously equipped with, all airplanes are now equipped with an
oil (or EPA) drain can mounted on the right lower engine mount truss.
R
This can collects any engine oil discharges coming from the
accessory pads for the alternator drive pulley, starter/generator, air
conditioner compressor (if installed), the separated oil from the
NO R
accessory cases oil breather air/oil separator can and hoses, and the
FO
propeller shaft seal. This can be drained before and after any flight.
A drain valve on the bottom right side of the lower engine cowling
enables someone to drain the contents of the can into a suitable
container. The allowable quantity of oil discharge per hour is still 15
cc for airplanes with air conditioning and 12 cc for airplanes without
air-conditioning. If the quantity of oil drained from the can is greater
than specified, the source of leakage should be identified and
corrected prior to further flight.
TI Y -
PROPELLER
The propeller now installed is very similar to the original propeller
BU NL
except it is a Hartzell, 4-blade, 100 inch, aluminum propeller.
ON
ENGINE COWLING AND INLET
The engine cowling and inlet up to the engine’s air box is now
RI O
constructed from solid carbon laminate plies. The cowl doors and
spine include a honeycomb core. A lightning mesh is provided on all
ST E
outside cowling and inside inlet surfaces to provide lightning
protection. .
