I. GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT PNPA

Philosophy
The PNPA is committed to develop cadets into competent public safety officers,
with management and leadership qualities, sound moral character, and
personality befitting that of a professional “public safety officer with a heart”
based on strong democratic ideals and processes with respect for authority and
human rights and directed towards community leadership.

Mission
To provide comprehensive education and training programs to transform cadets
into God-centered, community responsive Public Safety Officers trusted and
respected by the people.

Vision
By the Grace of God in 2030, the PNPA shall be the premier educational
institution, molding professional and community service-oriented public safety
leaders in South East Asia.

Program Outcomes
The PNPA BSPS Cadetship education and training will exemplify the following
outcomes:

1. Professionalism. Cadets will be able to show and develop professional


competence, commitment and character in the field of public safety
endeavors for them to become trusted and respected by the people.

2. Administration and Governance. Cadets will be able to enhance their


administration and governance skills in the context of public safety endowed
with culture of Justice, Integrity and Service.

Course Description
The course deals with the nature of identity, as well as the factors and forces
that affect the development and maintenance of personal identity. It is intended
to facilitate the exploration of the issues and concerns regarding self and identity
to arrive at a better understanding of one’s self. It strives to meet this goal by
stressing the integration of the personal with the academic-contextualizing
matters discussed in the classroom and in the everyday experiences of students
– making for better learning, generating a new appreciation for the learning
process, and developing a more critical and reflective attitude while enabling
them to manage and improve themselves to attain a better quality of life.

Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CILO): At the end of the course, the
students will be able to:
1. Discuss the different representations and conceptualizations of the self from
various disciplinal perspectives.
2. Compare and contrast how the self has been represented across different
disciplines and perspectives.
3. Examine the different influences, factors, and forces that shape the self.
4. Demonstrate the critical and reflective thought in analysing the development
of one’s self and identity by developing a theory of the self.
5. Explore the different aspects of self and identity.
6. Demonstrate critical, reflective thought in integrating the various aspects of
self and identity.
7. Identify the different forces and institutions that impact the development of
various aspects of self and identity.
8. Examine one’s self against the different aspects of self that are discussed in
class.
9. Understand the theoretical underpinnings on how to manage and care for
different aspects of the self.
10. Acquire and hone new skills and learning for better managing of one’s self
and behaviors.
11. Apply these new skills to one’s self and functioning for a better quality of life.

Behavioral Expectations/Class Policy/Oath of Undertaking


Cadets are expected to follow and live by the Honor Code and all rules and
regulations on proper class decorum stated at the Cadet Guide. At the same
time cadets are expected to come to class on time, prepared for class
discussion, and to always submit class requirements on time.

Course Requirements
 Textbook and References. Every cadet should bring his/her own
textbook/reference materials during class schedule.
 Performance Tasks and Written Tasks. Cadets must take and pass all
performance and written tasks.
 Major Examinations. There are three scheduled major examinations for
the entire academic term.
 Class Engagement. Cadets are expected to actively engage -
participate in all class activities like discussions, recitations, problem
solving exercises, and group activities. Pertinent questions, comments,
and reactions that reflect critical thinking are highly encouraged.
 Self-Analysis. Follow the format as given by the Professor.
 Submission of all Class Requirements. All class requirements are
encouraged to be submitted on time. Late requirements will not be
accepted.

Contingency Plan for Missed Classes


Make-up class will be rendered in order to complete the missed classes. Proper
coordination with Admin Sections of Academics and Tactics Groups must be first
accomplished before conducting the make-up class.
