Chapter 5 — Well Completion String Design

5.1 Introduction

Each completion string may endure a variety of downhole conditions imposed by the reservoir
fluids, the reservoir depth and the severity of the weii path.- All these in addition to the
objectives set for the well, will affect the total design and, choice of downhole tools and there
setting depths. Changes in temperatures, pressures, weight applied to the string, fluid densities
and friction induced by the fluids flowing through the completion components are a few of the
variables that need to be accounted for when designing a completion string. All these create
stress forces on the completion string and that need to be accounted for.
