Objective/s : At the end of class the students are expected to be able to :

1. Differentiate between positive and negative feedback

2. Elucidate their perspective on receiving feedback.

3. Recognize why feedback is necessary for development.

Assessment Expected Outcome:

1. The student should realize that feedback is not always a criticism of their capabilities when done
properly.

2. The student should be able construct positive feedback and how to give it.

3. The student should know that everyone needs positive feedback, even adults. They should realize that
words really do matter, therefore learning how to use the English language better expands their
channels of expression.

Concepts:

1. Affective Domain- The Affective Domain is a part of the system in learning that involves the
emotions, values and perception.
2. Affective Learning- This is how learners feel while they are learning and how they can internalize
each and every learning experience.
3. Affective Learning Activities: Role playing and a connected reaction paper.

TOPIC: Constructive Criticism


AFFECTIVE DOMAIN

Activity #1: Role-playing


In this activity, you will recreate 2 scenarios wherein you are a teacher giving your student feedback on
his recent performance in class.

The student is very shy and often refuses to participate in class discussions. Lately, however, you noticed
that he has been more active and communicative. After class, you ask him to stay behind so you can give
him some feedback.

1. Ineffective / deconstructive feedback

Teacher: Thanks for joining the presentation today. I’m glad to see that you have finally decided to join
your classmates.
Student: Okay.
Teacher: Maybe next time there’s a presentation, you should talk more.
Student: but I’m really shy.
Teacher: You should also focus more on your diction and pronunciation. I noticed that you also keep
mixing up the verb tenses. Did you hear how Anna gave her report? I want you to pay attention to the
way she speaks. Try to be more like her.
Student: I’m sorry.
Teacher: No, it’s okay! Just do better next time!

2. Constructive Feedback

Teacher: The presentation today was impressive. Did you like working on it?
Student: Yes, I did. The whole group worked hard.
Teacher: I can tell! I was especially excited to see the different kinds of criticism being acted out. The
video the group chose was also very informative. How did you feel about that?
Student: Yes, I chose the video but we all agreed on it.
Teacher: I’m glad that everyone really worked hard on the presentation. I also appreciate that not only
did you participate, but you also made helpful input in your project that made it more interesting. A
group has to work together to deliver a really good presentation. Do you there’s anything else you can
improve on?

Activity # 2: Reaction Paper


How did you feel about the 2 scenarios? Write a reaction paper on how the 2 dialogues made you feel.
As a student, which kind of feedback would you prefer and why?
COGNITIVE DOMAIN
Objective/s: At the end of class the students are expected to be able to :

1. Construct an original poem on the topic: Negative / Positive Words

2. Express their ideas in an organized and well thought- out manner.

3. Explain how words are powerful.

Assessment Expected Outcome:

1. The student should feel more confident in using the English language to express themselves
creatively.

2. The student should be able to organize thoughts and ideas by learning to write the guidebook.

3. The student would be more mindful of the words that they choose. Communication is a gift meant to
be used with discipline and intent.

Concepts in Cognitive

1. Cognitive Domain- A system of learning that engages knowledge and intellectual ability.
2. Cognitive Learning – this is a kind of learning that is more mentally engaging and actively
engages the intellectual capability of the learner. The skills and lessons learned by tapping this
domain should be long-lasting
3. Cognitive Learning Activities: Write an original poem about negative and positive words &
create a guidebook on how to give positive feedback.

Manner in which students learn skills related to mental (thinking) process in a hierarchy fashion
Activity # 1: Write an original poem about how negative and positive words affect us. Your poem
doesn’t have to rhyme, but it should express your idea by painting a mental picture.

example:

When you said that I wasn’t good enough,


I cried. I couldn’t sleep all night.
I started to think that maybe everything I do
is all wrong. Will I ever be right?

I wish you could take those words back,


and be kind to me instead.
I might forget the things that happened,
but I will never forget what you said.

Words can give both joy and sadness,


it can affect the way we feel.
Words can cut the deepest wounds,
but words can also heal.

Activity # 2: Create a guidebook on how to give positive feedback.

The guide should include the following:


1. (Examples of) Positive reinforcement.
2. (Examples of) Corrective feedback
- How we can keep the person receiving the feedback engaged and relaxed.
- Which words /phrases / expressions we can use or should avoid.
- A brief explanation of why feedback is important.
