INSTALLATION OF CABLE, CONDUIT AND TRUNKING

Objective

1. To outline work method statement for installation of cable and conduit.

Scope

1. This method statement is applicable to the installation of cable, conduit and


trunking for air conditioning & mechanical ventilation services at all applicable
areas and as set out in the specifications and the approved shop drawing

Tools and Materials

1. PVC cable, fire rated cable;

2. Metal trunking, metal conduit, pvc conduit, conduit accessories and etc.

3. Hanger rod, bracket, bolt, nuts, wall plug, tools box, ladder, measuring tape,
drill machine, conduit bender, pipe cutter, hammer, hand tools and etc.

Material Receiving and Storage

1. All the materials received at site shall be as per the approved material list.

2. Any discrepancies, damages etc. should be reported to the supplier for


rectification or replacement.

3. Cables shall be carefully unloaded from containers and store in protected dry
location off-ground in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and to
protect from mechanical damage or weather effects etc. Extreme care shall
be taken while handling the subject materials.

Safety Requirements

1. All site safety rules & regulations shall be complied with.

2. Supervisors will deliver tool box talks, relevant to these activities to all installer
involved.

3. Installer will be equipped with minimum personnel protective equipment i.e.


safety helmet, safety boots and etc.
4. Ensure only trained personnel shall install, test & commissioned the equipment.

Installation of Cable Trunking

1. Cable trunking shall be installed in accordance with the approved shop


drawings and properly coordinated with other trades in project site for exact
locations and levels.

2. Proper marking on site to be done prior to commencement of installation


works.

3. Ensure cable trunking are installed neatly on the surface and be truly vertical,
horizontal or parallel with the features of the building.

4. Bends shall be sized to allow for the minimum permissible radius of the largest
cable on the tray.

5. Earth continuity strips shall be installed at all joints and fitting connections.

6. Burs and sharp edges shall be removed prior the installation of the trunkings
and accessories.

7. A minimum space of 75mm shall be maintained between installations and


building structure in order to secure the cables and for general maintenance.

8. Label trunking accordingly.

Installation of Cable Conduit

1. Refer approved shop drawing / construction drawing / M&E coordination


drawing prior installation.

2. Check GI conduit route to ensure that it is free from debris and obstruction of
any other trades. Erect scaffolding with sufficient height for installation. Mark
reference points on wall / column and identify the circuit start point and end
points.

3. Use approved GI conduit & bends. Remove sharp edge of cut length of
conduit by filing. Install conduits and accessories, tight with saddle and screw,
make joints using threaded fittings.

4. Conduits on walls are to be run neatly, horizontally or vertically.

Installation of Cable

1. Ensure all drawings are approved and available to the installation team.

2. Prior to the installation of cables in any area, all cable trunking or conduit must
be inspected and ensure that they are free from any sharp edges and have
sufficient space for installing the cables.

3. Cables and wires shall be installed in accordance with the approved shop
drawings and properly coordinated with MAIN CONTRACTOR site engineer /
construction manager for exact locations and levels.

4. Ensure that all conduits and boxes in both ends are free from damages and
blockages etc. Blockage shall be checked by inserting the draw wire and
checking that it reaches to the other end without any disturbance. Once the
conduit is not blocked the wires shall be pulled using the draw wires while
ensuring no damage occurs while pulling.

5. The cables shall be secured using approved cable ties.

6. Earth cables shall also be pulled together with power cables.

7. Mark cables on both sides of connection i.e. at sending and receiving ends.

8. Insulation resistance test shall be carried out in accordance to tender


specification and consultant engineer’s requirement.

9. Termination shall be done by trained personnel using the appropriate


termination accessories.
