SCOPE OF THE PROJECT
•To develop a stadium in cochin that will be of
international standards & Associated Facilities
•To create an Ground For Local teams to prac-
tice and hold tournaments so that there may
be competition
JUSTIFICATION
•Ambedkar Stadium near KSRTC Bus station is
owned by GCDA.
•The Stadium and the ground are now in a bad
condition owing to water logging and related is-
sues.
•The 8 acre land in the heart of the city is lying
as a no mans land now .
•It is in this circumstance GCDA decided to re-
build the stadium and develop the foot ball
ground to international quality.
•Helps in promoting Local And National Econo-
my through the promotion of both national and
international tournaments

CROWD CONTROL
The are 8 entry/exits from the stadium one of
which has an ambulance that allows for swift
transport of any people who are injured dur-
ing the games to the nearest medical facility
DISABILITY
The stadium is accessible for the physically
hadicapped but the galleries are not thus
they are only allowed the seats that are the
closest to the pitch
SPECTATOR VIEWS
The design is made with no obstuction for the
viewing of the match and being anywhere
on the stands provides very good views of
the pitch with the most distance being 150m
from one end of the pitch to the last seat on
the other end of the pitch
SPECTATOR SEATING
The seating is arranged in 11 steps in the reg-
ular galleries and 21 steps near the VIP gallery
with 1 step in between each level
PRIVATE VIEWING
VVIP seating has been provided for the vari-
ous officials and digniaries that may come for
the matches these boxes are air conditioned
and provided with comfortable seats that
give the experience of viewing the game as
though inside of a theatre and is equipped
with a private toilet and TV the views from
these are the best possible in the stadium
RETAIL SALES
Retail sales arent done inside the stadium
rather they’re carried out in the store that is
located a little away from it

nings and night time

cinity which will be quite beneficial if there is a
situation where the doctor in the stadium cant
handle the injury or emergency

having actual quarters for the visiting teams

there is a single food counter in the stadium
premises but is on the outside and small vendors
may be allowed in to provide snacks though this
is very much dependant on the vendors available

toilets have been provided but they are built
outside the stadium and this causes any visi-
tors who wish to use them to exit the stadium

the galleries have stores underneath them
and thus allow for some revenue to be gen-

keepers though these shops dont add to the
spectators experience as they have nothing
to do with what goes on inside the stadium
itself and dont sell merchandise for the stadi-
um or the sporting events taking place
MEDIA
there is an air conditioned commentary
booth and media center for the TV report-
ers but the views from these are once again
poor so they must be moved outside so that
they can do their job properly
ADMINISTRATIVE OPERATIONS
the admin offices are provided in the indoor
stadium located next to this stadium though
it could have easily been accomodated if
another floor was added to the pavillion

there is next to no facility provided for the
players or officials the only consideration
provided is to provide 1 room each for the 2
teams that will be playing that day 2 toilets
and a referees room in the ground floor of
the pavillion bulding

NEGATIVE ANALYSIS
•No consideration has been given for people in the galleries there are
no chairs and no shade provided at all for the people located

•VIP lounge doesnt offer good views due to flat floor people in 3rd
row or fiurther arent able to view the field at all

•Commentators booth need to be shifted outside due to the lack of

proper view

•Pavillion doesnt have good shade so the vips arent comfortable in

the morning
•No warm up area has been provided
•Not enough area is provided for free kicks
•SAI, Sports council cant work out any longer because of football field
•No stadium theatre for discussing tactics
•Cant host an international team
•Lack of security
•The VIP entry has been provided towards the entry that is closer to
the bus stand it would have been better if it was on the other side

There are 5 external gates provided for the visitors
to the sports complex and the stadium 9 gates
for public entry one gate exculsively for the me-
dia and a VIP entry and the height of the seats
from the ground provides the gap that separates
the viewers from the players
DISABILITY
There have been several considerations made
for the disabled and a ramp has been construct-
ed to allow for their movement into the gallery
and there is space for 7 people
SPECTATOR VIEWS
The spectators have clear views of the pitch and
as such are able to view the game without diffi-
culty or obstruction however the presence of the
running track does somewhat remove the spec-
tators from the action
SPECTATOR SEATING
The galleries have 13 steps and is furnished with
chairs and there is no shade provided for the reg-
ular seats but the VIP area has some shade
PRIVATE VIEWING
There is no specially designed VIP viewing facili-
ties aside from reserved chairs for the VVIPS
although there is some shade to demarcate it
from the rest of the seats
CIRCULATION
There is a clear difference in the circulation pat-
terns for all the visitors to the stadium and is pro-
vided in such a way that the VVIPs ,Journalists,
Spectators, Players, Administration Staff, dont mix

ANALYSIS OF THE SITE

•The site is in such a way that there is very little

space for expansion or for large parking spaces
as it is surrounded on 2 sides by roads rail road
on the third side and housing on the fourth side

•The site is located in an urban area people

may use public transport to reach the stadium
and might allow lesser parking

•Due to the monsoon that is common through

out the second half of the year rain water har-
vesting is a possible option for reducing costs
and could be explored

•The railway might cause some noise that may

be a nuisance to the players
