Long answer questions:

Q1. a) Solid, Liquid and Gas

b) Explain arrangement of particles from very close in solid to slightly far in liquid and
very far in gases. As a second point explain movement of particles from vibrational to
sliding to free movement ranging from solids to liquids to gases respectively =.
c. Any relevant response; eg. heating ice, solid to liquid – melting.

Q2. a) Change of a solid to liquid in high temps

Change of a liquid to solid in low temps
b) With heat, energy increases and so particles move faster and further creating gap.
Opposite happens for low temperature.

Q 3. a) Evaporation of water occurs when water gains energy through heat and it gets
converted into water vapour in a gaseous form. The opposite phenomenon is
condensation which is the exact opposite of the above process changing water
vapour to water.

b) Any valid explanation of rain cycle including evaporation from water bodies and
condensation in the form of rain.

Q4. a) Anything that is dissolved in a solvent to form a solution. In Ravi’s case, salt is
the solute.
b) After a while, salt will not dissolve and settle at the bottom due to concentration.
This is called saturation.
c) It should spread from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower
concentration moving through the spaces between particles in a solvent and spreads
in the solution.

Supplement question: The idea here is to research to find an answer and go beyond
the scope of grade understanding the concepts better hence answer for this question
is not included.
