3. (a) Draw and find the area of a triangle, given the vertices; A(-2,6), B(-4,-3) and C(6.-4).
(b) Find the value of x from the triangle with vertices ( x ,3 ) , (−2 ,−2 ) ,(5 ,−2)and the

4. (a) Using basic properties of set operations, simplify each of the following expressions:
i. ( A ∩ B ')∪ (A ∪ B ') (3marks)
ii. ( A ∩ B ' )∪( A ' ∩B)∪( A ∩ B) (3marks)
(b) In a class of 35 students, each student takes either one or two science subjects
(Physics, Chemistry and Biology). If 13 students take Chemistry, 22 take Physics, 17
students take Biology, 6 students take both Physics and Chemistry, 3 students take
both Biology and Chemistry. Find the number of students who takes both Biology
and Physics.

5. a) Find the equation of the common chord of the circles


x2 + y2 – 4x – 2y + 1 = 0 and
x2 + y2 + 4x – 6y – 10 = 0
b) Find the equation of the circle with center (3, -2) and tangent to the line
L: 3 x+ 4 y +3=0
c) Find the length of the tangent to the circle x 2+ y 2−3=2 x−4 y from the centre of
the circle x 2+ y 2+ 6 x +8 y =1

d) The end points of a diameter of a circle are A (-8,2) and B (0,8). Find the coordinates
of the center of the circle, the radius and the equation of the circle.

8. (a) (i) Differentiate f ( x )=sinx from the first principle.
