 DESIGN OF BEAM

a. A rectangular reinforced concrete beam, located inside a building in a coastal town, is

simply supported on two 230mm thick wall and 6m apart masonry walls (centre to
centre). The beam has to carry, in addition to its own weight, a distributed live load of
10kN/m and a dead load of 5kN/m. Design the beam section for maximum at midspan.
Assume Fe 415 steel.

b. Design a beam of span 6.5m to carry a uniformly distributed load of 15kN/m and two
concentrated loads of 75 kN each at 2m from either ends of a beam. The only rolled steel
section available is IS MB 350@514N/m (fy= 250MPa). Design a beam section if
compression flange is supported laterally.

DESIGN OF TRUSS.
a. Design a howe type roof truss for a godown of size 10m x 40m. The truss is simply
supported on a 300mm thick brick wall.provided at a spacing of 5m. Galvanized
corrugated sheets are used as roof covering material, ISMC 100 channel sections are used
as purlins. Propose a suitable type of truss. Weight of galvanized corrugated iron sheets =
0.133kN/m2

Unit weight of purlins = 9.2kg
