General Instructions
1. Every student will be randomly assigned to a group comprising between 4 to 5 members depending
on the class size. Each group will be required to make a group presentation as assigned by the
course instructor. In addition, each group will be required to discuss/ critique the presentation
made by two other groups, as assigned by the course instructor. Please refer to Appendix 1 for
details relating to presentation team and critique team allocation.
1. The objective of the group presentation is to develop students’ analytical, critical thinking, problem
solving, research and presentation skills. Working in a group setting will also hone students’
teamwork, interpersonal and oral communication skills.
2. There are a total of 10 presentations. The questions for the group presentations will be included in
the seminar outlines which will be posted on the course NTULearn site 2 weeks before the relevant
seminars. Please refer to Appendix 1 for details relating to the project release dates, submission
dates and presentation dates.
3. Students are expected to perform their own independent research (E.g., from textbooks, news and
articles from the internet, practitioner articles, academic papers, etc.), and to think creatively in
presenting their materials in an understandable manner to the class. Refer to the Presentation rubric
in Appendix 2 for the criteria evaluated during the presentation.
4. Each group is given up to 20 minutes to make a presentation on the assigned questions. This will
be followed by a Q&A session led by the discussant groups. Each discussant group will have about 5
minutes (see details relating to Guidelines for Discussion below). After the discussant group has
critiqued the presentation, non-presenting students can raise questions on the presented materials
and/or discuss issues related to the seminar topic. The quality of questions, comments and
suggestions raised by the non-presenting students will be assessed as part of their class participation
marks.
5. The presenting group must adhere to the following timeline and responsibilities:
a. Email the presentation slides in PPT format to the course instructor in advance of the
presentation (refer to Appendix 1 for submission date details). The first page of the presentation
slides should clearly indicate the presentation number (1-10), seminar group number, and the
names of all group members;
b. Post a copy of the presentation slides in PDF format to the online discussion forum at the
seminar group’s NTULearn site at the same time. Please label the files as follows: PrX_GpY,
where X represents the presentation number (1-10) and Y represents the seminar group number
(1-10).
6. The assessment criteria include content/ structure (60%), presentation skills (30%), and response to
discussant group/ instructor/ non-presenting students (10%). Refer to the Group Presentation rubric in
Appendix 2 for details.
1. The objective of the group discussion is to develop students’ skills to critically evaluate the
arguments put forth by the presenting group, and assess the appropriateness and adequacy of the
content presented.
2. The discussion/ critique of the presentation should only relate to the content of the presentation (you
need not critique the group’s presentation skills). The presenting group’s slides will be available at the
seminar group’s NTULearn site on the project submission date (refer to Appendix 1 for details).
3. The discussion may be led by one or more team members. Students need not have PPT slides for the
discussion/ critique, oral presentation of the issues is sufficient. The time for each of the discussant
teams will be about 5 minutes. The team has to email a write-up of the points that will be included in
their discussion to the course instructor in advance of the critiquing session (refer to Appendix 1 for
critique submission dates). The write-up should be as per the template in Appendix 4, briefly discussing
at the most five important issues within a page. It could be presented in bullet points. In addition,
students can raise other questions/ issues to the presenting group which may not have been included in
the submitted write-up.
4. The discussion team should print a hard-copy of the write-up for the presenting team on the day of the
presentation/discussion.
5. The discussion team should post a copy of the critique to the online discussion forum at the seminar
group’s NTULearn site after the presentation (not before the presentation).
6. Each of the discussion/ critique contributes 2.5% to the student’s overall grade, totaling 5%.
1. Up to 20% of the total marks will be deducted for non-compliance to the submission deadlines.
Peer Evaluation
1. Members of each group are strongly encouraged to discuss and agree on each member’s tasks
and responsibilities early, and to amiably resolve any subsequent dispute(s) as a group prior to
consulting their course instructor. Course instructors will, if necessary, act as final arbitrators of group
disputes. Group members can submit a confidential peer evaluation using the form in Appendix 4
within a week after the presentation/ discussion, if they feel that there are unfair contributions by
certain group members.
