As a nursing student, I am concern about accidentally infecting my family members.

I will
practice housekeeping at my home by dusting frequently touched surfaces such as tables, doorknobs,
light switches, handles, desks, toilets, faucets, and sinks because many microbes are living there. I will
sweep and mop the floor thoroughly because we have a dog that is freely roaming around at our home.
I will help my mother in washing our clothes and beddings because it helps to remove any bacteria, dirt,
fleas, mites, and other irritants or infection. In other words, it reduces the incidence of infectious
diseases, such as diarrheal disease, respiratory infections, scabies, and other skin infections. And lastly, I
will practice the proper waste disposal at our home as well as in our community because some waste
contains potentially harmful microorganisms which can infect us.

As I compare how I used to do the dusting, sweeping, and mopping at home with the standard
housekeeping procedure, there are minimal differences. In sweeping, I start with our entrance door,
which is in the living room towards the exit door in our dining area. In mopping, I do the same with the
standard housekeeping procedure. In low dusting, I do not wrap the cloth around my hand when wiping
round bars instead, I just fold it and wipe it off. But when I already know about it, I realized that I can do
it when I will wipe our TV stand. And in high dusting, I usually brush our window screens two times
because it accumulated a lot of dust.

Housekeeping plays a vital role in our health. It is an important procedure in the provision of a
safe environment because one feels comfortable only if it is clean and well-ordered. I remember the
Environmental Theory of Florence Nightingale, which is one of the factors is cleanliness. During the
Crimean War, many soldiers are wounded and died even though they already treated in the hospital for
the reason that they got an infection through the bad environment condition. But because of the theory
of her many lives were save up to now. We must practice housekeeping in our homes because it is a
general preventive measure so, we cannot accumulate any infectious disease.
