Activities

Activity 1: Performing addition of integer

When the signs are the same, add the numbers together and keep
the sign.
When the signs are different, subtract the integers and keep the
sign of the integer with larger absolute value.

Add the following integers.

1. (+8) + (+8) =_______, the signs are the same, add 8+8 together
and keep the (+) sign.

2. (+22) + (-16) = _____, the signs are different, subtract 22-16 and
keep the (+) sign, because the integer with larger
absolute value is +22

3. (-12) + (+10) = _____, the signs are different, subtract 12-10 and
keep the (-) sign, because the integer with larger
absolute value is -12.

4. (+9) + (+6) = _______, the signs are the same, add 9+6 together
and keep the (+) sign.

5. (-13) + (-19) = ______, the signs are the same, add 13+19 together
and keep the (-) sign.

Activity 2: Performing subtraction of Integers

To subtract integers, you add the minuend and the opposite of the
subtrahend then follow the rule of adding integers. If both signs
are positive, the answer will be positive. If both signs are negative

the answer will be negative. If the signs are different subtract the
smaller absolute value from the larger absolute value.

Subtract the following integers.

1. (-5) – (+28) = ______, the opposite of +28 is -28, add -5 + (-28),

the signs are the same, add 5+28 together and keep the (-) sign.

2. (+19) – (-17) = ______, the opposite of -17 is +17, add +19+ (+)
17, the signs are the same, add 19+17 together and keep the (+)
sign.

3. (-18) – (+12) = ______, the opposite of +12 is -12, add -18+ (-12),
the signs are the same, add 18+12 together and keep the (-) sign

4. (+23) - (+63) = _____, the opposite of +63 is -63, add +23 + (-63),
the signs are different, subtract 63-23 and keep
the (-) sign, because the integer with larger
absolute value is -63.
5. (-100) – (+35) = _______, the opposite of +35 is -35, add -100+ (-
35), the signs are the same, add 100+35 together and keep the (-)
sign.

Activity 3: Performing Multiplication of Integers

When you multiply a negative number by a positive number then

the product is always negative. When you multiply two negative
numbers or two positive numbers then the product is always
positive.

Multiply:

1. 8 x -6 = _____, multiply 8 x 6 then put (-) sign in the product

2. + 4 x (+ 7) = _____, multiply 4 x 7 then put (+) sign in the product.

3. -5 x (+9) = _____, multiply 5 x 9 then put (-) sign in the product.

4. (+3) x (+4) = _____, multiply 3 x 4 then put (+) sign in the product.

5. (-5) x (-4) = ____, multiply 5 x 4 then put (+) sign in the product

Activity 4: Performing Division of Integers

When dividing integers, the quotient of a positive integer and a

negative integer is negative integer. While the quotient of two
positive integers of negative integers is a positive integer.

Divide:

1. 81 ÷ 9 = ______, divide 81 ÷ 9 then put (+) sign in the quotient.

2. 125 ÷ (-5) = ______, divide 125 ÷ 5 then put (-) sign in the

quotient.

3. (+49) ÷ (+7) = ______, divide 49 ÷ 7 then put (+) sign in the

quotient.

4. (-24) ÷ (-8) = _____, Divide 24 ÷ 8 then put (+) sign in the quotient.

5. (-205) ÷ (+5) = ____, Divide 205 ÷ 5 then put (-) sign in the

quotient.

Activity 5: Performing the Basic Operations on Integers

In performing integers, we use the 4 fundamental operations such

as: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division.

Perform the indicated operations.

1. (-43) + (+ 25) = _______, the signs are different, subtract 43-25

and keep the (-) sign, because the integer with
larger absolute value is -43.

2. (+57) – (- 21) = _______, the opposite of -21 is +21, add +57+

(+21), the signs are the same, add 57+21 together and keep the (+)
sign

3. (+9) x (-10) = _______ multiply 9 x 10 then put (-) sign in the

product.

4. (-81) ÷ (-9) = _____, divide 81 ÷ 9 then put (+) sign in the quotient.

5. 109 + 21 = ______, the signs are the same, add 109+21 together
and keep the (+) sign.
