In this assignment, you will build and evaluate your social capital portfolio.

Instructions
1. Use Table 5.1 (pg. 87) in Leadership Development for Healthcare—A Pathway, Process,
and Workbook for help with this exercise.
a. Identify the people in the network and assess whether each functions as bonds,
bridges, or linkages.
b. Evaluate the degree of value each person adds to the relationship.
c. Identify the benefits each individual brings by comparing the six critical features
of a social capital portfolio (i.e., information and expertise, influence, feedback, support,
purpose, or accountability).
d. Think about how often you have had some type of interaction with each person
during the past three months.

2. Assess the data you compiled by answering the following questions:


a. Are there gaps in any of the key features that need to be filled? If so, where are
they?
b. Does your network have a good balance between internal and external links?
c. How well have you cultivated your network? Are there individuals you have not
interacted with in the past three months?
d. What benefits have you provided to others in your network? How would you rate
the reciprocity of your interactions with your network partners? Is the reciprocity equal
or lopsided?
