To Whom it May Concern:
As a Special Education major at Brigham Young University - Idaho, I am excited to apply to be a special education student teacher at your school. In particular, my two years of special education paraprofessional experience and South American humanitarian aid define my service with students with disabilities. I believe my background with conducting student goal- and data-tracking, implementing Behavioral Intervention Plans, and serving diverse communities’ needs can support the students with disabilities at your school to succeed academically and socially with their peers.
While working with children and adults with disabilities in Ecuador, I have gained experience understanding different people’s cultures, languages, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Due to the nature of Ecuadorian laws and customs, individuals with disabilities may sometimes face challenges participating in society. Because I have traveled to Ecuador many times, I have interacted with some of the same children and adults with disabilities as they have grown older, helping them on trips out in the community, supporting their involvement with other community members, and developing their own social and physical abilities. My extended experience with these individuals shapes the way I help other students with disabilities, accounting for their own cultural backgrounds and long-term development.
I’ve also had the unique experience to be employed as a special education paraprofessional while attending BYU-Idaho. I assisted in schoolwide PBIS, and RTI, and provided accommodations to students I worked with in their general education classrooms. This experience helped me to implement and develop the evidence-based practices that I have learned at BYU-Idaho.
I look forward to hearing from you. To request additional materials or for answers to questions, I can be reached at (208) 351-0251.
