3. This paper consists of three section Part-A, Part-B and Part-C. Part-A is
compulsory however, attempt any three from Part-B and any one from
Part-C.
4. Write the answers in hard copy (on A4 or any other sheet available) using
blue/black pen with their sign on top and bottom of each page with your
Roll Number. Also put page numbers on upper right corner of each page
of the answer booklet.
5. The time allowed for writing examination is 180 minutes. Extra 15 minutes
are allowed for scanning and sending the answer booklet.

(a) Prove that curl grad ɸ = 0, where ɸ is scalar field. (1)

(b) Given the points A( x = 2, y = 2, z = 1) and B(  = 4,  = −50, z = 2) .

(f) The charge is uniformly distributed in the shape of radius b, as shown in
figure below. Prove that the electric field intensity at the center of loop is

propogation and intrinsic impedance.
(h) A 50 ohm lossless transmission line has a pure reactance of (j 100) ohms (1)
as its load. Compute VSWR in the line.
(i) Find V and E at (3, 0, 4) due to the two conducting cones of infinite
extent shown in Figure

(a) Prove that when a particle of constant mass and charge is accelerated
from rest in an electric field, its final velocity is proportional to the square root
of the potential difference through which it is accelerated.

(b) Find the magnitude of the proportionality constant if the particle is an (06)
electron.
(c) Through what voltage must an electron be accelerated, assuming no
change in its mass, to require a velocity one-tenth that of light? (At such
velocities, the mass of a body becomes appreciably larger than its "rest
mass" and cannot be considered constant.)

(a) Two parallel sheets of glass (εr = 8.5) mounted vertically are separated
by a uniform air gap between their inner surface. The sheets, properly sealed,
are immersed in oil (εr = 3.0) as shown in Figure. A uniform electric field of
strength 2000 V/m in the horizontal direction exists in the oil. Calculate the
magnitude and direction of the electric field in the glass and in the enclosed
air gap when (a) the field is normal to the glass surfaces, and (b) the field in
the oil makes an angle of 75° with a normal to the glass surfaces. Ignore edge
effects.

(b) The cross section of an electric fuse is shown in Figure. If the fuse is
made of copper and of thickness 1.5 mm, calculate its resistance.

wire concentrically as in Figure. If the wire carries a current I, show that the

A 100 + j150 Ω load is connected to a 75 Ω lossless line. Find:

Two λ/4 transformers in tandem are to connect a 50Ω line to a 75Ω load as
in Figure.
(i) Determine the characteristic impedance Zol if Zo2 = 30 Ω and there is no
reflected wave to the left of A.
