OBJECTIVES:
1) Demonstration of basic hydraulic circuit.
2) Interpret various components of hydraulic circuit.
3) Study of Meter-In hydraulic circuit
DESCRIPTIONS OF APPARATUS:
Hydraulic cylinder, flow control check valve, 4X3 D.C. valve, pressure relief valve, oil tank,
hoses for connections
THEORY:
The speed control of a hydraulic cylinder circuit can be done during the extension stroke
using a flow-control valve (FCV). This is done on a meter-in circuit and meter-out circuit as
shown in figure.
When the Direction Control Valve is actuated, oil flows through the FCV to extend the
cylinder. The extending speed of the cylinder depends on the FCV setting. A hydraulic meter-
in circuit flow control valve is installed in the pressure line. Before the fluid flows to
the cylinder, it’s metered through this flow control valve, that’s way we call it meter-in. This
action will reduce the flow from the pump to actuate cylinder, therefore the pump must send
more fluid than is required by the cylinder to actuate, the excess hydraulic oil will returned to the
tank through relief valve. The relief valve is typically set at slightly higher than the cylinder
working pressure. FCV is placed in the line leading to the inlet port of the cylinder. Thus, it is
called the meter-in control of speed. Meter-in flow controls the oil flow rate into the cylinder.
FCV is placed in the line leading to the inlet port of the cylinder. Thus, it is called the meter-in
control of speed. Meter-in flow controls the oil flow rate into the cylinder . Meter-in systems are
used primarily when the external load opposes the direction of motion of the hydraulic cylinder.
PRECAUTIONS:
1) Check the leakages if any.
2) Operate the dcv slowly to prevent damage.
3) Start the pump only when you had checked the connection of hose.
CONCLUSIONS:-
DISCUSSION &VIVA QUESTION:
1. What liquids are used in oil hydraulic system?
2. Draw the symbol of pump, double acting cylinder, 4×3 direction control valve.
