Water Pollution

Pollution has been a problem in our environment for several years now and water
pollution is one of it. Water is one of the important resources that sustain our lives and
we should conserve it for our sake in the near future. According to F.W. Owa (2014),
water is considered polluted if it is contaminated with some substances or conditions
that the water will not be used for specific purposes. According to Khatun (2017), there
are three major causes of water pollution, water-home, agriculture and industry. But it is
mainly from home and agriculture rather than industry.

Water pollution has a big impact on the health and life of humans, animals and
plants. It causes approximately 14,000 per day mostly due to contamination of drinking
water. Plastics floating in the ocean is also a big problem. Researchers discovered it
more than 20 years ago. Numerous discovery are also been reported that they found
plastics inside the stomach of marine animals, like whales, dolphins, birds, turtles and
fishes. The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) determined that only 47% out of
the Philippines’ 127 freshwater bodies retain good water quality. Also, 58% of
groundwater reserves tested positive for coliform contamination.According to Andrews
(2018), sources of water in the Philippines suffer from a range of contaminants.
Eutrophication is a also a problem that occurs when organic materials deposited within
the water deplete the oxygen available, causing anaerobic algae blooms. Various
organizations already took action in solving this problem.

degree that the water cannot be used for a specific purpose.” (F.W. Owa, 2014)

Therefore, water pollution is indeed a very serious concern because it not only has an
impact on health but also can have negative effects on our environment. It is a global
issue and world community is facing worst results of polluted water, so there should be
proper waste disposal system and waste should be treated before entering in to river.
Educational and awareness programs should be organized to control the pollution.

It is demand of the time to move towards sustainable development. We should think of

even those generations which have still to appear on this earth. We must notice that
ours is not the last generation to flourish on this earth, remember, they will be our sons
or grand-sons.
