Comments about communication:

I think this will be an ongoing challenge with all of us spread across time zones and also with the varying
degrees with which we feel comfortable communicating by technology. I honestly don’t know how best
to address it. I like Skype, but it can be spotty. I think we eventually got our team together. The Lord
works in mysterious ways, His wonders to behold.

Before coming, I wish I had known…

How badly my heart was going to heart when I was leaving.

Overall Experience 1 2 3 4X
My favorite aspect of the experience was…
Just the overall experience. It’s hard to break it down to any one component, because I have been
amazed both years how educators from such diverse backgrounds and regions can come together in
such a short time and put together a really quality conference. I always learn something…and I’ve been
in education for 34 years with tons of PD under my belt. The Belizean teachers have really started to
open up which is a great thing for me. The Jaguar Creek staff is so very conscientious that they humble
me.

My least favorite aspect of the experience was…(please provide ideas to help us improve)
I don’t know that it’s my least favorite…but I do think the safety aspect of the program does need to be
reviewed. Of course, Earl may have addressed some of this, because I think there is opportunity for
upgrade to lighting and also possibly ramps. (I know…spoiled American. But the facility is not accessible
to anyone in a wheelchair.) However, Jaguar Creek NEEDS an expanded First Aid kit since they are so far
from the nearest medical facility. I understand that the staff has limited medical training, and I’m not
suggesting that they need it, but not to have gauze pads or wraps or Ace bandages is really under-
estimating just basic things that could happen to any mission team. Ice was even difficult to get which I
understand…but that means someone needs to get those gel packs. I would also suggest much larger
flashlights for JC staff than what was available. Delivering first aid with a phone flashlight was less than
optimal.
Comments on any of the above:

If workshop time were unlimited, I would have liked to spend more time on….

Classroom management and techniques for working with special needs students.

My favorite moment (story) from the week:

I think it would be Daisy. She came to one of my break-outs and, apparently, was quite convicted by it.
She requested additional materials but came off as very assertive…no smile, no change of expression,
just a very abrupt, “I want more copies of…” At first, I was rather put off, but then I heard from some
other TTC staff who said she had also come up to them and had the same affect. Our conclusion was
that she has had to advocate so hard for her students to get what she needs for them, that she has
developed a very no-nonsense demeanor. I tried my very hardest to get what she wanted, because she
was very persistent about her need for the additional information. Imagine my surprise on Thursday
when I was presented with a beautiful set of earrings from Daisy, thanking me for all I had done. She
never changed expression…but love comes in many forms, does it not?
