Community Involvement Proposal

I. Title: Gerona Summer Lawn Tennis Clinic

II. Rationale:

Gerona Summer Lawn Tennis Clinic is a Long-term athlete development pathway for players. It
progresses through 7 steps from a player’s first exposure to the sport, to being a professional player.
Partway through the development, the path splits and players can choose a more “High
Performance” stream or, continue to enjoy and improve in the “Tennis for Life” stream.
Most starter lessons fit into the “fundamentals” stage. This stage happens anywhere people are
introduced to the game: in parks, at community courts and school gyms. The fundamentals Program
is designed to build a solid foundation for future success and promote enjoyment and improvement. It
is a resource for Instructors, programmers and play leaders to deliver effective lessons suited for this
stage of development. LONG TERM ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT 1 PROGRESSIVE TENNIS.
Progressive Tennis uses a system of modified courts, racquets and balls scaled to maximize
learning for different levels and/or age groups. Just like many other sports (e.g. Mini-soccer, T-Ball,
etc.), scaling the game down to the size of the child speeds up the learning process and makes the
game more fun. The color coded system is fully endorsed by the International Tennis Federation and
has been adopted by the majority of countries world-wide. Adults and Children players can also
benefit greatly from mastering skills with the smaller court and low-compression balls and build their
skills to full court.
This Gerona Summer Lawn Tennis Clinic program has been designed with the young athlete
in mind - anyone from the age of 9 and up. However, tennis players of any age who have limited
experience with strength training and are looking to improve general and sport-specific strength
qualities can also engage in this program to hone the capability of the children.
