HSE issues, including suppliers, communities,
regulatory authorities, workers representative
organizations and other stakeholders;
¾ Encourage reporting HSE events and consider
HSE performance in the compensation system;
¾ Promote health and environmental protection
by risk identification, control and monitoring to
ensure process safety correspond to best
international practices and be prepared for
emergencies;

E&P DESIGN GUIDELINES

There are a total of 35 Technical

Specifications that set criteria
relative to the several issues that
rule the design of a Production
Installation; one of them is
E&P Safety Philosophy.

Risk Analysis/Assessment

Petrobras Safety Philosophy defines the risk analysis

techniques to be applied in each project phase.

Petrobras defines requirements to be followed during the

execution of the safety studies.

Petrobras Safety Philosophy requires the use of CFD on

Gas Dispersion and Explosion Studies.

E&P/ENGP/IPMI

RELEVANT E&P GUIDELINES

Fire and Gas Detection Systems

Petrobras uses several detection technologies, the choice depending on

the environment. The detectors normally used are as follow:

‰ FIRE DETECTORS
Flame (UV+IR or UV Types)
Smoke, Temperature Rate of Rise
Fusible Plugs
Fixed Temperature

Multi-Spectrum (IR3): Not implemented yet

‰ GAS DETECTORS
Methane: Point and Open Path IR detector types
H2S: Electro-Chemical detector type

RELEVANT E&P GUIDELINES

Fire and Explosion Protection Systems

- Passive Fire Protection (PFP)-

Petrobras uses PFP for bulkhead and decks in compliance

with IMO Codes and Classification Society requirements.

Petrobras uses PFP for load bearing structures defined by

previously specific Safety Studies.

Petrobras uses several PFP technologies such as intumescent

coating, cladding etc.

E&P/ENGP/IPMI

RELEVANT E&P GUIDELINES

Fire and Explosion Protection Systems

- Ative Fire Protection -
Petrobras uses several fire fighting water pump technologies
(diesel, electric, diesel-electric, hydraulic…)

Petrobras Safety Philosophy requires the following

configurations: 2X100%, 3X50%, 4X33% according to
maximum design flow rate, considering no more than
2500m3/h per pump.

Petrobras uses carbon steel epoxi lined or Cu-Ni for fire water
mains
E&P/ENGP/IPMI

RELEVANT E&P GUIDELINES

Fire and Explosion Protection Systems

- Ative Fire Protection -

Petrobras uses fiber glass for fire water mains, for normally not
manned installations

Petrobras uses CO2 for electrical switch-rooms and control

rooms

Petrobras uses water mist for turbine enclosures and

machinery spaces

E&P/ENGP/IPMI

RELEVANT E&P GUIDELINES

Life Saving Appliances And Equipment

Petrobras has a specific Standard for conventional lifeboats

(N-1999)

Petrobras Safety Philosophy does not require the use of free-

fall lifeboats.
