SIGNIFICANCE OF THE CASE STUDY

Nursing Education

This case study will help to find out the prevalence and contributing factors of Coronavirus

and utilize the resources to give aid in nursing education because it will assist nurse educators in

promoting active learning amidst today’s pandemic and new method of teaching and learning. It

will also benefit the students to make meaning of knowledge in practical settings, allow them to

link theories into practice, and help them in developing critical thinking skills.

In Nursing Practice

The significance of this study will redound to the benefit of the society considering the

growing emphasis of the evidenced-based practice of nursing care across the world. There is also

a need for an ample body of accumulated empirical evidence to which nurses can refer to inform

clinical practice. This case study enables the nursing practice to keep pace with a rapidly changing

world, in which health care practices must continually improve to meet changing and ever more

demanding patient expectations and requirements. As researchers make discoveries, the practice

of nursing continues to change.

In Nursing Research

This study will be a significant endeavor for nursing students to be advance to their field,

stay updated, and provide better patient care. This will also help nurses to be adaptive to the

changes in the healthcare environment, patient populations, and government regulations. This

research merely promotes lifelong professional development of the discipline of nursing and

supports the fact that nursing is a professional discipline. This nursing research improves clinical

Patient’s Name: COVID KING QUARANTINO

Age: 65-YEAR OLD

Sex: MALE

Address: 26 PROJECT 7, MOLO ST., MANGALDAN, MANILA

Civil status: MARRIED

Occupation: RETIRED POLICE OFFICER

Religion: N/A

Date of admission: SEPTEMBER 08, 2020- TUESDAY

II. CHIEF COMPLAINTS

The patient seeks medical care because according to him, he was well 3 days earlier when

he suffered onset of natal stuffiness, mild sore throat and dry cough. His temperature also

increased to 38.5 ˚C with feelings of fatigue, having watery stools for like four times today and

rated his backpain 7 out of 10 pain scale.

III. HISTORY OF THE PRESENT ILLNESS

The patient stated that he traveled outside the town and has an exposure with a Covid-19

patient 10 days before the onset signs and symptoms.

IV. PAST MEDICAL HISTORY

The patient has no familial illness, no hospitalizations nor trauma. The patient also has no

drug allergies or tolerance, but is taking Acetaminophen for headache.

V. VITAL SIGNS

a. Temperature: 38.5 ˚C

b. Pulse Rate: 86 beats per minute

c. Respiratory Rate: 27 breaths per minute

d. Blood Pressure: 130/80 mmHg

e. Pain Scale: 7 out of 10

VII. MEDICAL DIAGNOSIS

In accordance with World Health Organization (WHO), Coronavirus disease (COVID-19)

is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. Most people infected with the

COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring

special treatment. Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular

disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious

illness. Below are the medical diagnosis or intervention provided by the Physician to the patient

who have the said viral infection:

1. The patient has been given oxygen via nasal cannula at 8L/min with reserved mechanical

ventilation if an arrest occurs.

2. The patient has been given an Azithromycin for CAP-MR; Dexamethasone for his alveolar

inflammation; Paracetamol for his fever and; N-Acetylcysteine for his dry cough.

3. Given his consent, he also undergoes a solidarity clinical trial to help find an effective

treatment for Covid-19. It aims to rapidly discover the whether any drugs slow disease

progression or improve survival of the said viral infection.

4. The patient has been given Remdesivir and Lopinavir
