 ...Yogi Bhajan chanting...

"Wahe Guruji ka Khalsa, Waha Guruji ke Fateh"

You will be very obliged and kind to me, if you hear these words, I am capitalizing the
twenty years of the practices, including five thousand years in which a mankind
progressed and walked on record, on spiritual practices. My hope in these few words for
few minutes is that you will understand why this word as that it is is unhappy. I mean
that is the question, if you won't ask those questions, your children will ask you, your
friends will ask you. Even those people ask you who have all the means and have the
achievements and then say well I have achieved everything in my life, why I am
unhappy?

This is a very outstanding question, it is not something that you can dodge it, it will go
with the humanity, as humanity will go with itself, but question is after all there are
twenty-two religions and youngest and the smartest and the most powerful and very
spreading religion is Sikh Dharma. What it has achieved in five hundred and twenty
years, it is not even equal with the adversity what it has gone. It has achieved its reality
through the adversity, it has achieved its growth to facing calamity. It has achieved its
strength by a par excellence human example. It is not something where weakness had
a place. So when this question is discussed after all, all our actions karma leads to
what? Our karma leads to a status, identity. Why we want a bigger house? To just show
that we are convenient, why we decorate ourself to show that we are decorative? Why
we live clean and neat and good behavior to impress other people that we are trust
worthy. Every aspect of action by every human being has a definite achievement. No
human will act without acting either vindictiveness or affection, there are two things for
which we act, love and hatred. They are two sides of the coin. And our actions can be
only divided by two motives, love and hatred. One is SatNam, one is fear, vengeance,
nirvair, that's why Guru described, nirbao, nirvair. If you have fear, you will be
revengeful. Fear causes the revenge. That's why in the mool manter, nirbao
nirvair akaalmoorat aajonee saibung Guru prasad these are very steps to understand
and they don't change. First you have to have a fear. You have to have disconnection
then only you will be angry and then you will achieve your anger two ways. Either you
will impose it on the self or you impose it towards the other person. Mostly you will
impose it to the other person, mostly. So it is established in the planet by looking at the
behavior of all men, of all races, all religion and all kind, the men act for one thing, or
people act for one thing, that is to achieve a status. We have seen and can see always,
lot of people have achieved earthly status, but if proportionately, we work it out that we
also achieve the mental status in proportion to our earthly status and we also achieve
spiritual status in proportional to our earthly status then we are in balance and that
harmony of balance is called happiness. It's a very simple thing, if there is too much
akashaa and very little Earth, achievements will be very little. If there is too much Earth
and very little akasha, in a human behavior then a man will be a leech, bloodful.

There was a person I have seen myself, for him to write a check of twenty-five dollars,
he couldn't spell it, his hand shakes and I watched him one day I said, "What are you
doing? You, this few checks you have to write, write them and let us get going."

He said, "This is the most difficult job in my whole life to write a check, though I know I
have to pay, I have money, this is daily thing I do, but just to write those figure, it looks
like from me something is going away."

I said, "But you spend it, you are only paying for it."

He said, "That all is true, I have no conflict with that, but my conflict is I am at the
moment giving the money away."

And that was his personality.

He said, "Could you please tell me what it is?"

I said, "It is nothing but a fear of loss, it's a phobia. You should go to some expert, work
it out, get some counseling on it. It's a basic phobia, whatever way it manifest, it is as
manifest, but the manifestation does not mean that it should become your physical
character. Exactly where in the human life we keep on achieving and we keep on
achieving our worldly wealth. We also should achieve our mental wealth too. We should
be intuitive, we should be in balance, we should also be in a position to switch our
personality in to another man's shoes so to know what the pain we are causing and
what we are talking. We must be dedicated. Our mind should be vast enough in
uniqueness. We can't work out in a proportion, that where reality is not in our proportion.
In our faculty of life, we have also to understand it is not very absolutely out of the way
to understand that we have a spirit. I am not talking in the very extreme essence of the
religious sense, in religious sense we have the soul, we have the spirit, but even the
spirit, in which we deal with our life day to day, the strength, the nobility of our action is
based, on our capacity of our spirit. It cannot be bifurcated that you have a very low
tendency, very low spirit and you can just achieve things in life. Even it takes a good
spirit to make a smile, it takes a good spirit to deal with people. Our mental insanity
when it comes to play a very vital role, it was very surprising a gentleman with
absolutely full physical caricature, looks very normal and when I finished talking to him it
didn't look like there was anything wrong, but I noticed there was a person on him as
kind of a guardian angel who was watching very carefully. I asked him I said, "What you
feel wrong with him?"

He said, "He is schizophrenic, he is phobic, he goes through a split personality

impulses, he is moody, he can inflict injury on himself without any rhyme and reason or
notice."

I said, "Does he cause any injury to anybody else?"

He said, "No, that has never happened, but there is a consistent record that out of the
blue without any reason he tears up his clothes or he throws up things and acts
absolutely irrationally." After all that is a behavior. That is why I think
when Guru decided that we must read our banis, it was not that it was a compulsion on
us it was something, that relate the finite should relate to the infinity. Something, which
should extend our point of view, one thing, which should broaden our point of view,
something, which will give us that we belong to the universe and universe belongs to us.
Something, which should relate to that we would relate to our mind, something which
relates that we have a spiritual achievement everyday. In our simple version we call
it sadhana. It is very essential. In the long run and for the short terms if people do not do
proportionate sadhana to their proportionate achievement I am now giving you the
formula. If the achievement is not equal to proportionate other expensive activities,
which are mental and spiritual person shall develop a handicap happiness. You can be
temporarily happy for certain reason I have achieved and unfortunately the happiness is
the most sublime thing, as you put Methylated spirit out it will evaporate. Whenever...
this is how the system is, mind has a thought, thought has emotion, emotion has feeling,
feeling has desire, desiring has the capacity to achieve. Moment you achieve, you have
reached a point of the optimum, it will evaporate. Then you have to achieve again, then
you have to achieve again, then you..... Whole life till death you are achieving after
achieving after achieving, when you are enjoying? When you are going to reconcile? Oh
wow, I have achieved, then achievement is comparative. The tragedy of it is
achievement, its achievement is comparative. Oh that person has a bigger house.

I was talking to one person and it's a normal talk it is not something where some special
occasion was about it and the ladies I said, "Oh my God you had a wonderful house?"

And she said, "Yeah, but we are going to change it."

"What is the difficulty? I mean to say look at the house and the marble and."

"Well, I don't know Yogiji."

She said, "Kind of we are short on bathrooms."

(Student's laughter)

I said, "But how many bathroom you have got in this house?"

"Six."

(Student's laughter)

Nine-bedroom house has six bathroom, lady was so unhappy we were talking and it
was such an explanatory playful talk and she was just like in heavens and she was
enjoying the whole conversations. All of a sudden when I appreciated the house the
whole aura changed and it looked like the person is basically so sad why there are no
three bathrooms, six are not enough. And I made a joke, I said, "Why don't you just
outside build three bathrooms to satisfy your ego if that is what."

"No, I want them in the rooms, with the rooms, but there is no possibility, so I am
thinking to tell my husband I don't know how I should tell him. I am thinking to tell him to
sell this house and buy a piece of land and then we can totally rebuild it."

She is willing to go to satisfy the feeling of having you can't achieve anything in six
bathrooms and not in nine bathroom it is not something so vital to life, but to some
people it's the most important thing. That is what I say even achievement is
comparative. That person has a bigger lawn, we have not bigger lawn, that much have
bigger TV. Now you understand when we started with televisions, that were twelve
inches normally and if somebody has twenty-four inches screen of TV it was a great
achievement, now the gentleman of the house you are going to understand they are
going to be TV which will be a full screen. I mean to say now TVs take half of the room.

(Student's laughter)
Something which came very politely into the house as a part of giving you an
information has become a status symbol. Exactly about the cars, bigger and bigger and
bigger and bigger they became. It is so comparative. Have you seen if somebody sitting
in a limousine which is about equal to the three size of the cars if one person is driving
and one person is sitting in the back and that is all it is about. In faculty, of reality, in our
identity, we have to express our identity and it will be a very greatest mental tragedy,
spiritual, absolutely, spiritual topsy-turvy if we do not express those things, they are
human. I am not saying, they are not human, but if we decorate them on the spiritual
avenue and we bring... worship is different thing. You can only worship the ultimate, but
you can have reverence, for everything. You can have reverence for your mind, you
should have reverence for your spirit, you should have reverence for your body, you
should have reverence for your friends, you should have reverence for your enemies.
You should have reverence, for the rain forest. Everybody knows, that there is a war
hanging on this planet. Everybody knows the loss of life will be tremendous. It will
devastate the economy. The people, the both parties, one party who is going to wage a
war, the other party who wants to complete the action, both knows that this planet Earth
and humanity which shall not be the same. It will be a limited war, but its effects will be
in many decades. Neither the World War I or World War II has devastated the planet
economy and human thinking that much which this war will do. It is not going to be very
long either. But it is at a place and a time, which is very vital and it is happening at that
time when absolutely no faculty, of cold war exist at all. Super powers have agreed,
they have understood, but two joints have understood war is impossible, the little ones
have not. So what I am saying through the point of intuition that it is not only the
happiness is a comparative term, but it is very subtle. It evaporates before even we
achieve it, it evaporates before we receive it. It evaporates before even and you are
hungry. You are dead hungry, having achievement and not enjoying it is hungry. Having
a food and not digesting it is hungry. And that is how mentally we have set up our life at
that fast space. What that does to us? That splits our personality, it splits our identities.
Ninety percent people have split personality and they don't recognize it. If it becomes
totally a mental aggravation to the society or to the family or to the neighborhood then
you start relating the person has some problem. Normally if you want to look at it
everybody lives three. Uthra dakshini asta, north south and some side, some are east,
some are west. Now listen to these three people. Those who are east they will talk
elevated, they will talk so elevated, it look like something gossip to you, you can't even
relate to it, but they will talk high. Those who are west like Sun down they will not only
go down they will bring you down. They will talk low, not meek, but low. These three
faculty of speech you will find among all friends. That is why in Siri Guru Granth, it is
said again and again keep the company of the holy, keep the company of the people,
who have disciplined themselves so they can elevate your discipline. Keep the joy of life
to that unlimited source of spirit and consciousness, keep the spirit into that play of life
where you can understand that God and Guru and you are the blend of the three. That
is, it is trimurthy. The oldest picture you see, in the world is trimurthy, three faces, three
faces of the world. Father, son and Holy Ghost, Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh or male,
female and the neutral.

In the Ajanta Ellora caves you will find there is a one very huge trimurthy, which
indicates one side is the female face the other side is the male face, in the central is the
neutral face. That shows, that life is mutual. I may be a very wise man or very unwise. It
doesn't matter, if I can live with a mutual consideration and understanding then I am
very wise, because the other identity is as identifiable as my identity. So you have not to
convince each other, you have to find via media where mutually people can meet and
that is how life is. In our understanding, when our mind is not very sharp it is not very
vast, it is not very, caliber is not matching to the capacity. The game in this world is not
the rich and the poor, game is the capacity and it is the caliber how much capacity you
have to enrich yourself with and how much proportionate caliber you need to deal with
it. These are the things which man has to develop as one grows in age. It cannot be
available in Harvard University. Schools teach you how to be and how to achieve and
progress and enjoy, that is learned in the university of the universe and the school of
life. It is my privilege to share with you this new year and the holy day of the akaal takt,
in which our wishes, our prayer, come through, in which we do something better, we
bring a dish with our meditative concentration, we come with that achievement, we
come there on a special meek, humble way. We come there, to ask specifically. From
the nonspecific we become specific. We come every Sunday, in a congregation, even to
look at each other is a faculty of the glory of God. It's sharing of the auras, it is sharing
of the spirit, it is just precisely a act of grace and thanks to the Guru Gobind Singh's
great philosophy, we sit under the command and the word of the shabad, where no
personality is questionable or non questionable. We sit and presided, by the ultimate, in
the beginning there was a word, and word was with God and word was God. And that
faculty what you learn in bible are,

"Akhri naam, akrhi sala, akhri gyan geet gun ga, akhri likan bolanba, akhri sahsanjog (?)
jiney likehy tisanay (?) tho paye."

That understanding is there.... Year, which is coming to us, is year of trial and not error,
that's a very unique thing about this year.

Side B

Those ten years of decade which we are going to live through, is going to be year of trial
and triumph. It is, you must see the history of the world, read it thoroughly, analyze it,
you will find it all last decade, all last ten years of every century are the years of trial and
triumph because, it is not a year is going to change, a century is going to change. One
hundred year of time phase is going to change, it is not going to leave the world as it is.
We say today ninetieth century, then we are going to say twentieth century and we are
going to keep on saying. Just understand something keep on saying that thing for
hundred year, is there something other than the holy word you teach for one hundred
year, repeat one hundred year, every man who relates to that calendar year is going to
say twentieth century. 1992, 1998, 1999, 200, 201, 202 and we are going to totally,
absolutely, in a time capsule, reach to that strength and that infinity. Let us calculate, in
twenty years, we have achieved much better life, in spite of problems. Why? We have a
relationship with the spirit and my experience is, as I am looking forward to something,
that all the twenty years and other years I have to come, I have come to that zenith, I
have to find a successor who can carry on this mission, this work, it can be individual, or
the body of individuals, but the mission has to continue and it cannot be that we can just
promote somebody, it has to come from the heart, it has to come from the depth of the
mind, it has to come from the spirit, it has to come from the being, it has to come from
the action, it has come from the identity, the reality, the status. It is not to me alone, or
to us alone, to find somebody. If you go back to the Sikh histories, we'll find people were
tested, people were put on a trial, one triumphed and when the time came, nobody
could triumphed, then infinity triumphed. We talk about our children, I want to touch that
subject to you. You are sons and daughter of Guru Gobind Singh, how much you feel
about it, I am not discussing that, but I am asking you as the gadi stood this lord of the
time in the morning, before the Sun rise his own son not much in age, sixteen he
decorated himself and said, son, today a day has come that you have to find the
calamity? Do you have the heart of a father? Do you understand, the reality of life to
that extent? Knowing the odd, is against one against hundred thousand. Sava laak se
ek ladaoo, one hundred and twenty-five thousand enemy against one that was the odd,
tabey Gobind Singh naamkuon, and not somebody else but his own son and not once,
twice. That is the legend, that is the legacy we follow. Not giving our children, to face the
calamity and turn into reality is one of the biggest destruction we seed today and the
fruit will be devastating. If people do not learn through trial and triumph to achieve life,
as it promised us to be life, that is what actually chardee kalaa means. Our faculty of our
life, where the whole world circles around us and we go higher, higher and higher and
higher. That's a simple achievement. An ordinary man, a householder, can do in an
ordinary daily life. We don't have an enemy, we have the enemy only one within us that
is ournegative mind, but it's the greatest faculty we got. It gives us these warning. It
buzzes in us the warning, but when that warning is not related with the neutral
and positive mind this warning become our self-destruction. We lose the achievement,
we lose the face, we lose the status. In your life, you will earn nothing, everything is
accountability, one thing which is certainly prevails and is acknowledged, is called the
status.

Guru Sikh sehej samaan hein, the Sikh of the Guru is in a very neutral and in a very
complete status. Har bus yojiyaey, the Har the God sits in the self that is the
achievement, that's the spiritual achievement, not that there is a big façade and a
structure and inside there is a total emptiness or not inside is total over loaded and
there is no communication. Both are wrong. Let it simar, simar, simar sukh pavo, let it
be slow and let it simmer out. Our each action is recorded akashikly our balance sheet
is every minute multiplied mocked and balanced out. We may not know it but heavens
knows it, God knows it, our higher self knows it. Therefore, the sangath of the Guru, the
courtiers of this court must recognize time has come when we must achieve the
rightconsciousness with right aspect and durability so what we have achieved in the last
two decades must be handed over graciously and gracefully to the most deserving one.
Not only I will look for it or we will look for it, it is the interest in all of us that we must find
a saintly soul which can console all the odds and brings the heavens, to those who
need it, brings the nectar to those who are thirsty. Bring the joy to those who needs the
touch of feeling. Brings the counsel to those who are devastatingly down and bring the
spirit to those who do not trust.

I always say to you, don't believe me, but trust me, because life has to be a calculated
gamble in which calculation can go wrong, intuition you will never. Just understand what
you cannot see you start seeing it, what you cannot feel you start feeling it. What you do
not know, start knowing it, that is God. God knows it all and what is happening tomorrow
is going to happen. Some will have the strength to triumph it, some will have the
strength to trial through it and some through the trial to fall apart. Each day is that. That
is why in the ambrosial hour, we start with the God and with theGuru and with the self.
Today you give in something weak, which you mentally and spiritually feel is weak,
tomorrow you will give it more. One day there will be nothing left of you. Therefore,
please understand, life is a flow of triumph, chardee kalaa.

"Nanak Naam Cherdi Kalaa"

Nanak, if we meditate on the name of God, we will have a exalted self.

"Tere Paane Sarbat Daa Bhalaa"

For thou sake, we will wish good to all. When we do not wish good to all when we do
not put ourself into the others' place and then speak, when we do not understand others
faculty and just push our points, that is where we go wrong. If we cannot see God in all
we cannot see God at all and those who do not see the unseen hand of God working
and planting and planning and doing and growing and bringing winter to spring and
spring to summer and spring to fall, summer to fall, don't they understand the cycle of
time is just nothing but the ecstasy of God consciousness?

Somebody once asked me how you became spiritual, remember and recall that moment
when you became spiritual.

I said, "There are many moments I can recall, but for your sake, I'll recite one."

He said, "What is it?"

I said, "One day, it was a very sunny day and I just wanted to relax and lie down
because we were working in the fields, so I found a very beautiful flower bush, it was a
big bush, it was a rose bush and said well, why not to lie down near the roses and have
a smell and one thing is on a rose plant all this insect do not go because there are
thorns they are very wise so you do not have any situation or tremulouty, that something
will fall over you."

I say I slept. When I opened my eyes I saw something there was a rose in bud situation
and with the Sun and heat of the day it was flowering, it was opening up and I saw very,
very, concentratingly and I saw something is blossoming. I see God acting, I felt it, I
experienced it. I don't forget it even now. I can recall it even now. That day somebody
sent me the flowers, they were all buds about twelve of them, they were put on a pot
with water and when I was sitting next morning I saw them blossoming, opening up, that
is heart. After a while, in a couple hours later, there was a fragrance, rose fragrance that
was the spirit and they were the rose flowers that was the identity in a simple thing in a
simple way, in a subtle way we can learn the totality, reality, identity and God.

"Wahe Guruji ka Khalsa, Waha Guruji ke Fateh"

Song....

Student: (?) fifth Guru (?). There is but one God by the true Guru's grace, he obtains.
The occasion of rejoicing has come, I sing the praise of my lord. The occasion of
rejoicing has come and I sing the praise of my lord. I have heard of my (?) little husband
enjoy wells up within my mind. My mind is in love, when shall I meet with my perfect
groom, through Guru's destiny. Oh my (?) for me that I may attain the lord of the
universe, that I may be easily absorbed within Him. Day and night I stand and I serve
my lord and by what way can I obtain my spouse. Nanak prays, oh lord, have mercy on
me, attach me to your skirts, oh lord. Joy has welled up within me, I have purchased the
jewel of God, following the tracks. The tracker has found the jewel, to be with this thing.
The dear saints have mercifully met me and now I reflect upon the inevitable description
of the lord, that they have given, with single minds, with one heart, I meditate on God,
with love and affection. With both my hands joined, I pray to God, oh lord, bless me,
with the fulfillment of your name. Nanak makes the request, I am your slave, you are my
infinite, you are my unfathomable lord. Infallible, unmistakable, is the date fixed for my
marriage and perfect is my union with the lord. I am fully His (?) and my separation from
Him has ended. The saints come in a body and they contemplate the lord. They form
the wondrous members of the wedding party, gathering together, they calmly arrive at
the home of the bride and the bride's brothers and friends welcome them with full love.
Like the (?) and the wolf, the bride's light blends with her lord's life and all the people
drink of the nectar of God's name. Nanak requests, the saints has completely united me
with my lord and my lord is potent to do all my deeds. Beautiful is my home and
blessed, with the things that I am relate to, returning to the feet of the Guru, the lord has
entered into my heart. Falling at the feet of the Guru, I am awake in peace, I am awake
in poise and all my desires are fulfilled. With the dust of the feet of the saints, my hope
is realized, and after a long separation, I have met with God, my groom. Night and day, I
abide in bliss and the celestial music sings within me. The hearty intellect of my mind, I
have given that up. Nanak requests, I sought the protection of the lord and in the Saad
sangath, I become tuned to him. Night and day I abide in bliss and the celestial music,
resounds within me. My mind's hearty, intellect I have given it up, Nanak requests, I
have sought the refuge of the lord, God and in the Saad sangath, I become attuned to
Him.
