Objectives: By the end of these activities SWBAT:

*Express past activities or experiences they have done in this year so far, using the
present perfect tense in a pair work conversation.

* Explore present perfect events and make up a story using the vocabulary in context in present
perfect tense in a writing practice.

*Make up a conversation role-play using the present perfect tense in context with a
partner in a hot potato game.

We can ask Ss to bring different props from their houses to use them in class. Each prop can
represent an action.

Teacher will take attendance and set the board with date, Vocabulary box and objectives, and T’s
name.

Conjoint warm up. Have all students out and make small circles. Then Ss will talk about activities
they like to do or have to do in their everyday routine. (3-5 minutes). Then change the tense and
ask Ss to talk about any past event or experience using the simple past tense. (3-5 mins). Final
have Ss say 2-3 verb in past participle and then they have to make a sentence using the verbs in
past participle. (3-5 mins)

1- Ask Ss to open their books on page 36 and 37 and look at the pictures. Then tell them to close
their books and discuss with their partners what they remember.

Outcome (waiting at the airport – taking a taxi – climbing a mountain – etc)

2- T will ask Ss to open their books again and go through the pictures 1 by 1

Picture 1 (car break down) T will write on the board (Has your car ever broken down on the road?
- Yes, my car has. / No, my car hasn’t. ) Then have Ss asking their peer questions about the
pictures using the same pattern.

3- T will write on the board, How long have you been studying in the English Immersion
Program? Ss will think about how to answer this question. T will let students try until they get the
right answer using the correct grammar. Then Ss will practice in pair this question, but using
different scenarios. How long have you been _____(ING) ___________? – I have been _____(ING)
_________________.)

4- T will write on the board the following vocabulary. (Assume – day off – towing service – show
up – stuck – hazard lights – tow truck – announcement – delay) and have Ss make groups of 4 and
discuss these words and look up in the dictionary the ones they don’t know.

Then T will play the audio for the dialogues on page 37 and write on the board the following
questions, What is this dialogue about? Who are the characters? Where does the story take
place?. Ss will keep their books closed to listen only. After the first dialogue finish, they will discuss
the questions in groups.

After they finish with dialogues A, B and C they will open their books and read the dialogues in
pair.

5- After they all finish, T will ask Ss to go outside and play the hot potato or any different version of
this game to choose 2 Ss who would perform a role-play conversation about a similar topic using
the vocabulary already practiced. T will repeat it until 3 to 4 couple of Ss have practiced. Then Will
choose a partner and practice a similar conversation.

GRAMMAR – PRESENT PERFECT


Teacher will write the vocabulary in participle from the first lesson.

Lost 10 pounds – Been to Italy – Failed a test – Met sb famous – won a prize – Gone bungee
jumping – broken your leg

T ask: Have you ever _______________? Yes, I have. / No, I haven’t.

 T will model with a student, then Ss will stand and practice with the person in front of
them, asking questions using the example on the board or using any personal experience
they’ve had.
 Ss will prepare some questions using the same pattern from the board to interview their
partners next to them. Then T allows 3 – 5 students to role play the interview in front of
the class.
 Ss will retell what they heard others have done. T will provide the first example. (Maria
has bought a ticket)

T will draw the globe on the board. T will ask Ss, how many continents are there in the world?
Then Ss will stand and mark with an (X) where each continent is supposed to be on the globe.

T will ask, Have you ever been to __(continent)___? Yes, I have been to _____. / No, I haven’t.

After students become familiarized with it. Introduce other questions for students to practice
using other

Pronouns. E.g. Has she ever been to Africa?. Yes she has. No she has not. / Have they ever
visited South America? Yes they have. No they have not.

GRAMMAR STRUCTURES

Bring colored sheets with the grammar structures of present perfect (see attached) for students
to find them and place them under the sentences according to the grammar structure they are
able to identify.

On page 39 there are some exercises about present perfect T can choose from to complete in
class. That way T can assets Ss and help them if needed. T can also have a quiz or competition
using those exercises.

What you knew before and what you know now!

Ss will stand up and T will pass Prop to the Ss, the one with prop will have to explain what they
learned today and what they knew before.

1- Research and make a written report about present perfect.

2- Bring an old prop from your house (explain Ss that the prop needs to represent one
verb, for example if they bring an old spoon, they can say I have eaten recently)
