3.2 CONCEPTUAL PLAN

The concept of kite has been visioned for the town. The kite represents freedom. Ajnala is visioned
to be an ecofriendly city with beautiful lung
spaces, signified by the flying of the kite in
the open air. Environment wellness is the
major objective to be achieved by the
planning of the town. Ajnala is a small
town and self-sustainability is the major
objective, but its dependence on Amritsar

the flying of the kite. A kite is dependent
on the central wooden support for flying, since transit
oriented development is proposed for the town, it depends on the major roads for development. The
tail of the kite gives it the strength to move faster and higher. Similarly the industries, commercial
area , tourism activities will improve the economical base of the town, making the development
process faster. The shape of the kite resembles the structure of the town.

a. Parks and open spaces:-

A central park will be surrounded by smaller green

parks spread throughout the town. The central park
encapsulates the water body and the parks and open
spaces will be distributed throughout the town. The
pathways will be semi paved and they will be provided
with ramps to approach a barrier free design.

b. Commercial area:-

The commercial area is visioned to be a pedestrianized

zone, with seating spaces along the roads. It is to be
developed as a recreational space.

The public places will be decentralized instead of accumulating in a single location. This provides
for a work space relationship. The town will have an undulating skyline.

d. Industries:-

The industries will be clustered together, to utilize their wastes by converting it into biogas. The
clustering of industries will reduce the transportation cost that will be incurred in the transportation
of waste. Clustering of industries reduces the input cost and increases the profitability of the biogas
plant that has been proposed to reduce the amount of industrial waste going into the landfill.
