(Group 8) Case- BHEL : Losing out to chinese rivals?

Key Takeaways from the BHEL case

 Emergence of private players in power production like reliance power, adani power, L&T-
MHI joint venture, ABB etc led to growth of Chinese players in india.

 BHEL was not able to cope up with the rising demand of the country and so the Indian
companies involved in power production started importing power equipment from Chinese
companies lie dongfang electric, shanghai electric etc entered india in early 2000.

 Chinese Company’s equipment cost was 20 - 40% less than others and thus emerged as the
biggest global manufacturers of power plant equipment.

 The reason the Projects were moving away from BHEL was of its low production capacity,
delayed delivery performance and cost factors.
