Worksheet 2.2 Types of sensor

1. A sensor measures something specific, then sends a signal to a computer. The signal may be analogue
and, if so, would need to be converted to digital for the computer to understand.

Explain what is meant by changing an analogue signal into a digital signal.

2. In this table the names of each type of sensor have been muddled up. Match the words in the left-hand
column to what each one detects.

Type of sensor What is detected?

Temperature Dampness/dryness

Light Pressure (e.g. someone standing on it)

Pressure How full/empty a container is

Moisture Temperature

Water level If something is touching/pressing it

Movement How close/far something is

Proximity Movement nearby

Switch or button Light/dark
