Let’s start this module by assessing your knowledge and skills of the different
mathematics concepts that you previously learned.

Pre - Assessment
Directions: Find out how much you already know about this module. Choose the letter
that you think best answers to the following questions.

1. It is polynomial of the second degree.

a. Linear Equation c. Quadratic Equation
b. Linear Inequality d. Quadratic Inequality

2. What is the standard form of linear equation?

a. ax2 + bx + c = 0
b. ax2 + bx - c = 0
c. ax2 - bx - c = 0
d. ax2 + bx + c + 0

3. Which of the following is a quadratic equation?

a. 3s2 + s – 4 c. 2x – 1 = 5
2
b. m – 8m – 1 = 0 d. 5y2 + 4y 7

4. In the quadratic equation 2x2 – 9x – 5 = 0, which is the constant term?

a. 2x2 b. x2 c. – 9x d. – 5

5. In the quadratic equation x2 + 8x – 2 = 0, what are the values of a, b, and c?

a. a = 0, b = 3, c = -1 c. a = - 3, b = 0, c = -1
b. a = 1, b = 8, c = -2 d. a = 3, b = 0, c = 1
UNIT I
QUADRATIC EQUATIONS,
FUNCTIONS, AND INEQUALTIES

: Ma’am, quadratic
Do you have an
equations have a
idea about standard for of ax2 +
quadratic bx + c = 0, where
a, b, and c are real
equations? Very Good! Can
numbers and a 0.
you give me an
example of
quadratic
Ma’am,

2x2 + 4x + 8 = 0
That’s
great!

Our topic today is all about quadratic equations. For your deep understanding about the
topic, you can use the books Next Century Mathematics 7, page 23-32.
Assessment and Evaluation

I. Directions: Find the solutions of each of the following quadratic equations by

completing the square.

1. x2 – 2x = 7 3. m2 + 10m + 9 = 0
2. s2 + 4s – 60 = 0 4. w2 + 3w = 3

II. Directions: Find the solutions of the following quadratic equations using the
quadratic formula. Answer the questions that follow.

1. x2 + 5x = 14 4. 2x2 + 7x = -9
2. x2 + 5x + 4 = 0 5. x2 + 4x + 4 = 0
