How has your experience as a teacher
affected/informed your approach to
tutoring?
As teachers first and foremost our aim is to
enable each child to reach their potential

by building positive working relationships.
We have in-depth knowledge of the
primary curriculum, areas that children
traditionally struggle with and
topics that appear on the 11+ but
are not always covered in schools.
This allows us to provide targeted
tuition, for both CEM and GL 11+
exams. Our knowledge of
Trafford’s Grammar schools allows
us to offer individual advice for
each child. Personal experience

What is unique about The
Progress Hub over traditional one
on one tutoring?
Formally one to one tutors, we
came to believe that this didn’t suit
all children. Consequently, we
developed our approach of
providing tuition in small groups.
For many children, not feeling
constantly ‘under the glare of a
teacher’ can be more comfortable
and productive. Peer groups
provide children with the
opportunity to learn from and
support each other.
How did the Progress Hub adapt in order to
continue tutoring during lockdown?
Our regular sessions were moved online
immediately and although we have since returned
to socially distanced face to face teaching, we
have the capability to support learning online if

All pupils will have experienced some learning loss
after the long break, so it’s especially important that
they now receive the extra boost they need to
ensure their progress is moving forward despite
disruptions.
